About the Author

Tim Hmelar is a serial entrepreneur and small business owner who lives in Palo Alto, CA. Tim is the owner of The Kitchen & Bath Company of Palo Alto and has been providing construction services to homeowners in the Greater Palo Alto area since 1980.
Tim’s first real venture in small business was taking a semester off from school and helping his brother Frank orchestrate a leveraged buyout of a plastics company in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Tim literally used his textbooks in finance, operations research, business law and statistics to help his brother in the purchasing and setting up of the new company.
Tim has also had some business successes and some business failures of his own. His successes include running a construction company where he had the opportunity to work on the homes of some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most well-known business leaders including the CEOs of Google, Hewlett Packard and Cisco. Tim also co-founded Web Lunch Box, a social media training company. After having a tumor removed from his back and assessing how best to use his time; Tim decided to only juggle one business ball and focus all his efforts on his construction business and his family. Tim also unsuccessfully started a real estate company in Mexico and an online coupon company (Ouch!!!).
Tim is a graduate of San Jose State University. He has taken courses at Northeastern University, Framingham State College, Foothill Junior College, De Anza College, Mission College, West Valley College, Stanford University (Continuing Ed.), UC Berkeley (Continuing Ed) and most importantly the School of Hard Knocks. Tim is a lifelong learner who believes one’s education must never end if he wishes to stay relevant.
Tim enjoys spending both his personal and professional time with compassionate, giving people who share their talents in an effort to make the world a better place. Tim does NOT enjoy spending time with self-centered people who do not share their talents with others. Tim’s favorite business attire is a white dress shirt with blue jeans and cowboy boots. He also likes to wear baseball caps and Van’s sneakers.
Tim is passionate about life and business. He likes to teach and talk. Tim has been a guest speaker at many meetings, conferences and universities including San Jose State and Stanford. Tim is a blogger and television host who has hosted shows for KMVT in Mountain View, CA. Tim also has been a radio guest and is often a quoted resource for publications.
