Written from the point of view of Kamari, a true voluptuary and succubus, this sizzling tale of dreams, demons and love does not disappoint. The prose is elegant, rich and textured; brimming with the kinds of visuals I long for in erotica. The story is sensual, following a brief foray into the lives of two Victorian "mortals" and two "Lilim" charged with the difficult task of stitching the void of unrequited love. The story weaves between dreams and reality, ever building into an exquisite tapestry of emotion that will leave you breathless. I don't want to give too much of it away, as it should be experienced, but Ms. Duquesne does an amazing job of exploring how fear, insecurity, and repression can be conquered by love. Beautifully written, this page turner is impossible to put down. Highly recommended!

On the one hand, this book is beautifully written, filled with tasteful and elegant details that bring the story forth vividly. On the other, the appearance of both Greek mythology and Victorian era was delightful, creating a page turner that is almost impossible to put down. The characters are three dimensional and well constructed, enabling the reader to easily bond with any of them. While atmosphere can be best described as an evening shadow -- it is a shade filled with desirable silhouettes that beckon you closer, promising sinful, beautiful and pleasurable things to those who give into temptation -- it can also show a more menacing side to dreams. However, Ms. Duquesne proves to us that love can still conquer all obstacles, without approaching the threshold of cliches.

Freya Duquesne has delivered a delightful, delicious romance. I indulged in this book with no idea of what tale I was about to read, other than it was an erotic romance. A happy choice! Thus, I am loathe to provide any details about the story or the characters save in the most oblique manner. Succulent and seductive, the tale relates the challenges and desires of two sets of lovers. Artfully entwined, I found myself immersed in the dual narratives. Mesmerized by the heroine, intrigued by her mysterious partner and their mission, I devoured each chapter. Ms. Duquesne has a wonderful cadence to her storytelling, a pace that fed me just enough to satisfy, while tantalizing my need for more. This book is as much a joy to read for her words as for the story they convey. I sincerely recommend this story with all confidence. "By Her Own Hand" is highly enjoyable journey and I eagerly anticipate this author's next work. Brava, Freya Duquesne, BRAVA!
