The opening was really great and set a pace that the rest of the book could not keep up with. After 400 pages we only learn three new things of the protomoceule. The rest is filled with multiple points of view dialog . Lots and lots of character building dialog. The authors squandered two scenes and completely rushed it; the last one-on-one battle and Holden's nightmare part duex. The former was built from the first battle that you know was comming and then fell terrible flat. The later was so rushed, its a huge let down. There is redemtion at the end and I am not refering to the last scene. But rather the bonus snippet leading to the third book. So happy reading that scene. In the end you get a glimpse of potential of what is to come. However prepare for the authors to force you through character building instead of allowing a greater story to fill in the blanks for the reader. I now have high, if not impossible expectations for the third book in the series. For a series called "The Expanse", I find it small in scope. The first book opened the doors. But this made it all feel small, except the bonus look forward.

How did these guys not win the Hugo? I don't gush over books often but this have re-energized my love for a great sci-fi tale. I have not found a better series since ... well at least 15 years. Ty and Daniel mesh flawlessly in a series that creates a world, politics, characters, action, just enough realistic science. Then come the multiple threats. Which many times are us. Gush gush. Incredibly readable. I just wish the publishers would release the books faster. I know the next novelette is finished (Ty talks to the fans). Wish I could give this series 10 stars.

I truly enjoyed this book. The characters were engaging, and humorous. The battles were well thought out and the universe believable. I can't wait for book 3 in the series.

Slow starting and almost put it aside. But once it finally got rolling it was like a thunderstorm coming in.

This is the second book in The Expanse series. One could read this as a standalone novel, but the story is richer if the first book, Leviathan Wakes, is read. I first learned about this series through The SyFy show Expanse. Fell in love with the show, and thought I’d give the books a try. Not disappointed. I am addicted to this series. On Earth not all is as is seems. Someone is playing God…One of its creatures nearly starts an all out war between Earth and Mars. One politician does all in her power to discover the truth and keep the fragile peace. The Rocinate and her crew decided to help a man find his daughter. But again they discover that not is all as it seems. This installment is well balanced as the first. Enough political intrigue, action, and character drama that is wonderfully weaved together in a rich tapestry of a beautifully made tale. And again, the ending of this one makes one anticipate the next. Just enough of a tease, to keep one hooked. Definitely worth checking out.

The physics are right, characters are well-developed. There's just enough twist to keep each page turning after lingering over. Other times, you know you'll have to go back and reread after you find out WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! It's a lovely, lovely read. You'll be sorry if you miss this series!

I loved this entire series. This story are is a good old fashioned sci fi space adventure, and the author's clearly appreciate strong and intelligent women. Chrisjen is the kind of woman I hope to be when I am older. I will be reading more by this author duo. (The authors are ghost writers for George R.R. Martin).
