Set in the mid-'50s, Call the Midwife is a BBC-TV drama series which follows the adventures of Jenny Lee, a young midwife assigned to work with a nursing convent serving Poplar, a poor section of East London. In 2013, Call the Midwife aired a special holiday-themed episode that dealt with personal and community crises as an unexploded bomb and an outbreak of polio test the yuletide spirit of Poplar. Call the Midwife: The Christmas Album features a number of holiday classics used on the soundtrack of the Christmas episode, as well as original themes written for use in the broadcast and a few selections sung by the cast. Selections include "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole, "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley, "It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas" by Perry Como, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Judy Garland, "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" by Laura Maine (who plays Sister Bernadette), and "When I Fall in Love" as sung by the show's stars.
