Children's Literature - Ellen Welty
This book gives readers an overview of the many cultural influences in the nation of Canada. Part of the "Lands, Peoples, and Cultures" series, the book is abundantly illustrated with photos. The book begins with a description of the cultural heritage of Canada, then has chapters about religious influences, holidays and festivals, theater and dance (including a description of Canada's famous Cirque du Soleil), literature, and famous Canadian performing artists. The book also includes a chapter featuring clothing and one focusing on myths and legends. The last chapter describes art in Canada, including architecture and Native Canadian art. Many of the chapters could be used individually in classrooms, but readers would enjoy reading the book in its entirety. There is an index and a glossary but no bibliography or list of additional resources. Reviewer: Ellen Welty
