Description: This is a survey of a wide range of interesting topics related to cancer and pregnancy. The broad range of issues addressed are difficult to categoize and this is reflected in the somewhat arbitrary organization of the book.
Purpose: An introductory statement clarifying purpose and unifying the subject matter is not provided and would likely be helpful in allowing practitioners to assess the appropriateness of this book for their needs.
Audience: The back cover refers to an audience that includes clinicians as well as researchers. The chapters provide introductory information on topics that a practitioner is not familiar with, but sufficient detail is not provided for specialists seeking assistance in actual clinical practice.
Features: The book covers a wide range of topics from the epidemiology of cancer in pregnancy to reviews of common cancers of pregnancy to tumor biology. Authors represent many nations providing a broad perspective; however, regional differences in cancer incidence as well as treatment approaches are not made clear. Fascinating theoretical parallels between cancer and reproductive biology are drawn.
Assessment: This book provides a general survey of a perhaps overly ambitious range of topics. Readers who require more detail can make use of the up-to-date references provided.
