This book reviews the state of the art presented by highly competent authors. The first two chapters are dedicated to clinical aspects of early diagnosis of important tumor types such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, cancer of the prostate and transitional cell carcinoma, skin cancer and melanoma, cancer of the oral cavity, esophagus, stomach and colon, and hematological malignancies. In the following chapters the value of the different methodological approaches to early detection of cacner are reviewed: tomor markers, imaging procedures, histo- and cytopathology,
cytogenetic and molecular genetic methods. The book is of interest to all physicians, to researchers who accept the challenge to improve early detectin of cancer, and to governmental or charity institutions designing and supporting screening programs for early detectionof cancer.
