About the Author
And that was how I was born, which is pretty peculiar since this was an August night in Los Angeles.
Frequently, someone wearing a wary expression asks: "Why do you write horror?" Okay. That's really two questions and I'm going to answer both. (1) "Why am I a writer?" isn't a bad question, in fact, it's pretty impressive. But all that goes out the window when you add (2) "Why horror?" The answer to (1) is that I was born with a drive to write. It's a calling. The answer to (2) is I've been fascinated by the occult all my life. Okay?
All right, but "horror" still sounds a little ooky to most people. So to put this in perspective, find an MD, a proctologist, for instance. Ask him why he became a doctor. If he loves his work, there's a very good chance he will say he was born with a drive to become a doctor, a calling to the profession. But if you ask why he's a proctologist and he tells you he's been fascinated by assholes all his life, well, think about it. That "horror" stuff doesn't sound so weird now, does it?
Didn't think so.

This is one of the best books I have EVER read. Tamara mixes the right amount of sexuality, and vamparism. It is the first romance/vampire novel I have read! It was absolutly magnificent!
Ms. Thorne really out does herself this time. The characters are enchanting and the plot is intoxicating.
August 26, 2002Candle BayTamara ThorneWell, I might have spoken too soon when I gushed about Tamara Thorne. Not to be negative, but this book did NOT live up to Haunted, or even Moonfall. Firstly, it¿s about vampires. I knew that, of course, but it still sounded interesting. Instead it was merely okay, rather than good. I still have about 10 pages to go, actually, but I¿m going to zip through them tonight and then be glad it¿s over with. I¿ve already started a new book, one that I bought on a whim at the grocery store last night. Candle Bay wasn¿t a BAD book. I enjoy the way Thorne writes ¿ the dialogue, the sexual content, etc. ¿ but it was just kinda slow going. I can¿t even remember the female protagonist¿s name right off the top of my head. I think the story would be more interesting if it were told more from her point of view, actually.Anyway, I¿ll get through the last pages of it tonight and put it away.
This story was ok. I read other books by her and loved iti celt thestory started out strong the seemed to get weaker and weaker. It does not have a ending is there got to be another book with more letting you know what happens to them. It leaves tomany questions. I hope her other booki gotten will be better I had high hopes tofind another author to kerp me up at night turning page after page this book is not it.
This was my first vampire novel and it was very entertaining. The plot is very interesting and really had me wanting to find out what will happen next. But my biggest grip would have to be the ending climax. With all the hype of the Father's return I really thought it would be an all night slugfest.Plus with all the talk about trueborns and the power they possess I really thought that Julian would have manhandle the Darlings. The ending was really lame and disappointing and that made me not to care what choice Amanda will or would have chosen. With all that was happening leading up to the climax it just suddenly stopped and that was really disappointing for me.
