This book accurately reviews what is currently known regarding aging and changes in the dog and cat. This is a practical guide for both the practitioner and client to fully evaluate the geriatric animal. The purpose is to present a portion of what is currently known regarding geriatric medicine in dogs and cats. This book is not meant to be an all-inclusive book on geriatric veterinary medicine and should not be regarded as such; however, this is a good contribution. Any information contributing to geriatric medicine is warranted and badly needed. As the author notes, veterinary gerontology is in its infancy and current information is being added daily. This book is written for the general practitioner, veterinary student, and possibly the client. Although this guide is not comprehensive, it does a good job of discussing cardiovascular disease and various drugs and would benefit with more of the same approach. This practical guide contains 16 color plates and pictures which are excellent. The book covers the cardiovascular and nervous systems, special senses, urinary tract disorders, neoplasms, and nutrition. Special sections on anesthesia, surgery, and radiology are included. At the end of each chapter, an excellent list of references is provided. This practical guide is a welcome addition to the sparse literature on veterinary geriatric medicine. I believe it will be a handy guide on what is currently known about care of our geriatric patients. I am looking forward to more contributions to this field in the future from this author.
