Canning the Center is a story of learning to stand up for yourself and what's right.  Jamal loves playing football. He is now the center for a NFL team. Unfortunately, the team owner is against guys who are gay playing on his team. Jamal wants to tell the world he is gay, but is persuaded to stay silent. Trevor is a drag queen who is extremely smart. He has had a very hard life, with no one to support him, only ridicule. He hides from the world his true self, until he meets Jamal. Jamal is the one person who can love the two sides of Trevor, if only he could tell him about his third side--a gay activist. When all the truths these two are hiding come out, will it destroy the forever they hope to have?  After breaking up, both Jamal and Trevor decide to fight for the relationship with surprising results. Luckily Jamal's family support their son, and help in any way they can to help him make the best choice for him to be happy. Love this series, and look forward to Tackling the Tight End, the next in the series.

GREAT!  This was a well woven sequel that had it all.  Cameo from the couple in the first book, some mystery that kept me guessing, diverse characters, and a totally sweet romance.  Jamal and Trevor are so freaking cute together you will feel nauseated in a good way.  I don’t even know what else to say, except that I enjoyed Jamal’s story every bit as much as I’d hoped! Canning the Center kept me enthralled from beginning to end.  There are some surprises and in the end, you’ll be left with a smile!

Jamal's story 4.75 stars “Canning the Center” by Tara Lain is part of ‘The Long Pass Chronicles’ series and features Jamal Jones as he starts his professional football career. His buddies, Noah and Will, take him to a club where he becomes enchanted by the drag queen known as Trixie LaRue. Trixie’s alternate role as a brilliant mathematician and gay activist complicates Jamal’s decision to refrain from coming out to his team, as he falls hard for both aspects of the complex and beautiful man. Unfortunately, each of them has significant baggage to work through before they can truly form a relationship, and it may be over before it truly begins. The compelling and erotic m/m romance titles penned by this author continue to blend an entertaining and spicy tale with glimpses of the often daunting challenges faced by those who are different, whether because of race, culture, or sexual orientation. It was fascinating to read a story that is a melding of issues which have been prominent in the news recently with the twist of an exploration of the difficulties of coping with the social pressures facing a cross-dresser and anyone who cares for him. The poignant situations that face both the massive football player whose family has nicknamed Ferdinand the Bull, and the sensitive yet brilliant man who captures his heart, is one that will tug at your heartstrings even as the incandescent passion that soars between them burns up the pages. I adore Jamal’s family and am always delighted to read about level-headed, loving and accepting folks who make the world a better place by their existence. As usual, this author points out the importance of being true to oneself in an engaging tale that combines passion, humor and an intriguing storyline that enlightens without preaching, and I look forward to other tales in the series. © Night Owl Reviews I received a copy of this title in return for an honest review.

Meet Jamal the 6’7” and 300 pound first round draft pick for the Diablos professional football team. Jamal is a damn good center.  Jamal is also bi with a preference for pretty men.  Not a good thing in the homophobic world of the NFL.  When his best takes him to a drag club Jamal is immediately smitten by the lovely Trixie/Trevor.  Trevor is a brilliant gay man who enjoys cross dressing but has been told for years by the people in his life (who should know better) that he was a freak so trust is not something that comes easily to him. The chemistry between the two is palpable. But Trixie/Trevor is out and proud and Jamal is out only to his family and a few close friends. Can these two very different men meet in the middle?  Will Trixie/Trevor cost Jamal his future in the NFL?  Does Jamal want to be in the NFL if he can’t have Trevor? I fell for Jamal when we met him in Outing The Quarterback.  His sister calls him “Ferdinand the Bull” because he is a lover not a fighter and it fits Jamal to a T.  He is an incredibly sweet and giving man unless of course you meet him on the football field.  You find yourself rooting for these two from the moment they meet.  This is the second in the Long Pass Chronicles but can be read stand alone.
