Overview

In this humorous paranormal romance, Jane Madison is searching for a job that will fulfill her, enabling her to combine her peerless librarian skills with her witchcraft. Sarah Anderson, Clerk of Court for the District of Columbia Night Court, is just beginning to figure out what she can do as a sphinx, an ancient protector of vampires.

Magic flies when Jane and Sarah team up to protect a rare collection of books. Along the way, both women need to balance personal goals, professional careers, and their often-unwieldy love lives!

This novella combines the beloved world of the Jane Madison Series with the excitement of the stand-alone novel, Fright Court. Where else can a reader find a novella of witchcraft, vampires, and cupcakes?

Editorial Reviews

Romantic Times
"This is an irresistible tale of power and love, friendship and acceptance. The main character's constant and often rambling internal dialogue is suprisingly charming and insightful, endearing readers to her playful quirkiness and private insecurities...."
RT Book Review
"The entire cast of this book comes to life, making it almost painful to witness Jane's misplaced trust and inherent naivete. Klasky, who first wrote about witch Jane in Girl's Guide to Witchcraft, keeps you entranced from start to finish."
Staff at
"Filled with magic -- both of the witch world and the romance world -- complicated family relationships and a heavy dose of chick-lit humor, this story is the perfect ending to the series."

Meet the Author

Mindy Klasky learned to read when her parents shoved a book in her hands and told her she could travel anywhere in the world through stories. She never forgot that advice.

Mindy’s travels took her through multiple careers – from litigator to librarian to full-time writer. Mindy’s travels have also taken her through various literary genres for readers of all ages – from traditional fantasy to paranormal chick-lit to category romance, from middle-grade to young adult to adult.

In her spare time, Mindy knits, quilts, and tries to tame her endless to-be-read shelf. Her husband and cats do their best to fill the leftover minutes.

I loved the meshing of the two characters and their men that we LOVE! I felt it was too quick of a plot and when through fast but it was a good read. I enjoy the fun characters and the things they get in to.

It was a little on the short side but it was a fun melding of two worlds. I would not recommend it if you haven't read Fright Court or the Jane Madison books first.

The way the author, links this book into the Jane Madison series is magical to say the least.

Having read the whole Jane Madison series, I really liked seeing this character again - and giving her someone (Sarah Anderson from "Fright Court") that she can empathize with (about their new supernatural lifes). I hope Ms Klasky gives us more of these two characters together!!!

I enjoyed the book. It is a novella/short-story type of thing. Kinda a snippet of two characters, Sarah from "Fright Court" and Jane from Magic and the Modern Girl. I suspect readers not familiar with the characters would not enjoy. I read ebook version which has about 70% story and then extras including generous excerpts from author's other books. Very unlikely to be pivotal to either character or series.

Wonderful meshing of the characters from two different series....Fright Court and the Jane Madison Series. You do need to have read both series first, in order to understand the inner turmoils of both Jane and Sarah, but this novella then seamlessly brings both stories forward.

As a HUGE fan of the Jane Madison series, I was over the (full) moon to discover that there was a new story to devour. I was even more excited to find out that it is a cross-over, featuring not one but two fabulous heroines. If you love books and magic (and who doesn't)and funny, clever writing (seriously, who doesn't?) you are going to love this latest from Mindy Klasky.
