Misty Does Texas...and Washington. I received this book from the author, Craig Odanovich. Misty’s adventures continue in Captured Prey (the second book in the Black Widow Trainer series), beginning with some R&R with her friends in Argentina. Her time there helps heal the self-confidence that was bruised in her brush with international espionage with Ivan (a client from The Black Widow Trainer), and by resolving her marital status. When she decides it’s time to get back to work, she allows Gabriella to choose her next client – a weasel of a man in San Antonia whose interests lie only in possessing Misty’s body rather than in improving his own. Her disappointment with him is more than offset by her attraction to his ranch foreman, Travis. Navigating the ethical dilemmas posed by this situation proves to be both challenging and educational for Misty. From Texas, she travels to Washington, D.C. and takes on a congressman as her next client. The congressman’s opponent in the upcoming election discovers the nature of Misty’s special contractual clause and tries to use it to inject scandal into the congressman’s re-election bid. She’s only able to emerge from this jam with the help of several friends, including Travis and Ivan. Misty retains her dual nature here; the toughness of spirit and body, and the naiveté about the world of men and women who wield power. She does, however, continue to grow, and learns that friends and allies come in all shapes and sizes and often from totally unexpected quarters. The curious, little-girl aspect of her personality will likely never be extinguished, and that’s a good thing. Without it, there would be no adventures and the sex would just be perfunctory and boring. With it, we wait and wonder what Misty will be getting into in the third book of the series.
