Description: This overview of the many areas of cardiovascular nursing is presented in a logical, outline-based format and includes discussions of cardiac, hematological, and vascular disorders. This is part of the Demystified series of books on a wide variety of nursing topics.
Purpose: The purpose is to explain cardiovascular nursing in a simple style that students or beginning professionals would have no difficulty understanding. The author meets this objective with the outline format using everyday language.
Audience: The intended audience includes students as well as professionals. This would be a nice addition to the library of a student or a novice healthcare professional. The author is board certified in psychiatric mental health; there is no evidence that he has experience in cardiovascular nursing.
Features: The book covers multiple topics in cardiovascular nursing beginning with assessment and ending with cardiovascular emergencies. Each chapter covering cardiac disorders provides appropriate nursing diagnoses and a brief treatment overview. Case studies appear at the end of each chapter along with a set of multiple choice questions for review. Diagrams and pictures augment the text. The majority of the ECG strips appear in a very light red ink, which makes them difficult to see.
Assessment: This would be a good source for nursing students who need an explanation of cardiovascular nursing in simple terms. It also may be helpful for novice nurses or nurses who are new to the area of cardiovascular nursing.
