" Sometimes the most beautiful souls are the most broken. " Cards of Love is a multi author project, organized by Willow Winters. Knight of Swords by Autumn Jones Lake is a standalone, set in her Lost Kings MC Series. Every book in this project can be read in every order. Meet Roman Hawkins, he's an outsider from the wrong side of the tracks and what he wants is age out of the system and be on his own. He lies low to avoid trouble, but when he mmets Juliet on his first day of school, everything is about to change. Juliet is a good girl. She's living with her aunt and uncle and is biding her time till she can leave for college. But Roman and fate have other plans- They're " two lonely damaged spirits mended together.... and become one. " Knight of Swords is a touching story that will stay with you. I read the book a few days ago and I can't get Roman and Juliet out of my head. They're stubbornly staying. I liked the writing-it's great, the story and the characters and give 4,5 stars.

Teenage romance is usually fast and fleeting and all that remains are the memories, until the next true love comes along. This wasn’t the case for Roman and Juliet. The moment they met at her locker was the beginning of a special and impenetrable bond that no one dare tear apart. Juliet and Roman were kindred spirits and their meeting was destined to happen. They needed each other as one needs air to breathe and one cannot exist without the other. Juliet felt at times that Roman knew what she was thinking before she even uttered the words and Roman felt protective over Juliet and he would always keep her safe. Beautiful and fun childhood memories did not exist for them because they both experienced terrible pain and heartache. Juliet made Roman feel worthy of having a bright future and he made her feel loved for the first time in her life. Juliet’s kind words and gentle touch warmed his heart and made him feel loved. She was the one for him but he was afraid to love because he didn’t know how and he was scared of losing her. Juliet had never experienced love before but the feelings she had for Roman made her tingle inside, and smile on the outside. She fell for him instantly as if a love spell had been cast around them. Her future was with him as long as they could deal with any obstacles that might get in their way. A loving family is something Roman and Juliet knew nothing about but in an instant, they became a family and were not afraid to look to the future with enthusiasm and hope. Love at first sight may be a myth to some people but to Roman and Juliet, it was special, magical and meant to be.

Knight of Swords presents Autumn Jones Lake’s contribution to the cards of love collection. If you have not heard about the cards of love series they are a collection of individual novels written by over 30 authors. The novels are linked by the common inspirational theme which comes from the tarot card they have been allocated. They can be read in any order. Roman and Juliet get their story told in the Knight of Swords to say they both come from challenging home situations would be an understatement. The pair meets over a high school locker and their bond develops from there. Neither activity lashes out or antagonises their situations, but fight to stay strong and achieve their goals in challenging circumstances. They worked as one to find a way for them to be together even when it seemed impossible. An inspirational tale of enduring love overcoming diversity to give Roman and his Juliet their HEA. EXTRACT “Are we dating?” she whispered. The air in my lungs vanished and my stomach bottomed out. Did I move too fast? I closed the locker door with a quiet metallic click and braced my hand against the cool metal, thinking of how to answer. “Roman?” she prodded. Finally, I met her troubled blue eyes and let it all out. “I don’t have anything to offer you, Juliet. Not a penny to my name to give you the things you deserve. My time’s regulated more than an inmate. Can’t spend hours online with you or even call you without someone listening in on our conversation. Got no car or way to take you out-” “Stop” “Don’t have a family to introduce you to,” I continued. “Roman, I don’t care.” “You deserve more.” “So do you.”

Wow, Roman what a guy! Knight of Swords is the prequel to the Lost Kings MC series by Autumn Jones Lake and as such, it’s a great starting point for those of us, myself included, that haven’t read any of these books yet. Juliet and Roman’s story was beautiful and I loved getting to know their characters and finding out about their lives. Juliet lives with her uncaring aunt and uncle while Roman is a foster care kid, neither feels loved or wanted until they meet. This was a fast, insta-love novella but it had a lot of whirling emotions and still gave me all the feels as I read it. Now, I want to move on to the whole series.
