When a young woman swaps coats with a prostitute then vanishes, it marks the start of a mystifying case for Leighton Jones.

After traffic officer Leighton is called to an altercation in a used car lot he is confronted by a prostitute rambling on about a girl who stole her coat. He thinks nothing of it. That is until the body of a Jane Doe shows up, matching the prostitute’s description.

What is the link between the fight in the car lot and the dead woman?

Leighton proceeds to gather evidence, which he attempts to pass onto the lead Homicide detective, Slater. However, Slater tells Leighton to back off, and that a suspect has been arrested.

Fearing there is more to the case than he first thought, Leighton, is driven to keep digging and soon ends up on the trail of a serial killer.

But Leighton might be out of his depth this time…

Great read...kept my attention through the entire book! Although I predicted the majority of the story, it still kept my interest and the twist towards the end was a surprise! Detective Jones and Rochelle (a prostitute) become friends, even though they are very different, while “working together” to find some missing prostitutes. This is actually an unofficial case, since Jones is only a traffic cop. Both are very likable and devoted characters. This is the first book I’ve read from Brown, but I plan on checking out others! Thank you NetGalley, Bloodhound Books and N.M. Brown for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review! #CarpenterRoad #NetGalley #Amazon

It starts with a young woman swapping coats with a lady of the streets. The young woman is later found brutally murdered. And she's not the only prostitute that goes missing. Office Leighton Jones, a traffic cop, comes across a prostitute who is rambling about her missing friends. He doesn't think much of it .. until it hits the news that another body has been found. This one matched the description that the woman had described. Following his hunches and gut feelings, he starts an investigation of his own. He tries to share what he finds with the lead homicide detective and his boss, who clearly has no love of Jones. Jonesy, to his friends, is an all around good guy, trying to do what he can to make the world a better place. This investigation is going to cost him a lot ... his job, his relationship with his daughter... maybe his very life. This is an exceptional story with outstanding characters. I was hooked from the very first page and stayed hooked until the very emotional and surprising ending. Many thanks to the author / Bloodhound Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Carpenter Road is an excellent police procedural. Set in Oceanside, CA, Leighton Jones is, along with his partner Danny Clark, a traffic cop. Only occasionally does he find himself caught up in cases involving homicide - and then, even if he is able solve the crime, he usually winds up in hot water because crossing boundaries and pursuing hunches are not part of his job description and his Captain is always out to get him. Jonesy, to his friends, is an all around good guy, trying to do what he can to make the world a better place. His teenage daughter Annie is the apple of his eye, and of course she doesn't see him as Superman - or even Superdad. Yet. I received a free electronic copy of this novel from Netgalley, N. M. Brown, and Sarah Hardy with Bloodhound Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. N. M. Brown is definitely an author I will watch for.

Carpenter Road by N.M. Brown Leighton Jones is a policeman working in Oceanside, California. He does not get along with one of the the police captains who seems to have it in for him. His personal life seems a bit lonely and his partner away as he is busy with a dying father. As he works on the street driving his police car, checking for drunk drivers, and settling disputes he doesn’t see a lot of the seamier side of life or work on murder cases…not usually anyway. On one of his calls to a dispute at a used car lot he runs into a woman who ends up being one of the last people to see a woman who ends up murdered. Leighton picks up tidbits here and there as he unearths what the homicide detective on the case is letting slide. With a teenage daughter upset with him, a boss that is on a power trip, women disappearing at the hands of a serial killer and his curiosity engaged in trying to find the murderer this proved to be a great police procedural that eventually unearths the bad guy and puts him away for good. I believe this could be an entertaining series if the author chooses to continue writing about this character. Thank you to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars
