About the Author
Grayden Paul was born in Davis, NC and raised in Beaufort. Mary was a native of Bradenton, FL, when the two met while she was visiting her sister in Beaufort. Grayden served as mayor of Beaufort and was the head of Civil Defense for the county during World War II. He was also one of the founders of the Beaufort Historical Association.
Their son, Grayden Jr., is a staff member at the Beaufort Historic Site and enlisted the help of the Beaufort Historical Association to gather the materials for this republication.
