Molly's a successful chef who's just escaped a tumultuous marriage with the clothes on her back and enough money to buy an old food truck. She returns to her hometown of Austin for a fresh start and discovers the ruined remains of Joe Jensen, her girlhood crush.
Joe led a charmed life until the tragic night he lost it all. Once a master carpenter, he's now part of a restoration crew, when he isn't too hungover to crawl out of bed. He exists in a booze-fueled haze of one night stands, barroom brawls, and working until he drops.
Then Molly Hildebrandt shows up at the job site in a food truck as red as her glossy lipstick. She's no longer the jailbait girl who used to trail after him, but she's still the little sister of his best friends, Mason and Mac. Molly's a splash of ice water to Joe's whisky-addled heart, and as much as he hates the idea of screwing up his friendship with the twins, he can't keep his hands to himself.
Saddle up for The Carved Hearts Series, a funny, tear-jerking, swoon-worthy tale of a tattooed spitfire and her not-so-average Joe.

If you need a weekend romance binge read, this is a definitely recommended "to read" from me. It's got everything in a contemporary romance story you are looking for. A strong woman who knows what she wants, a heartbroken man who needs to heal, a little bit of suspense and surprises along the way. Molly and Joe's story isn't without it's ups and downs. They both come from difficult past relationships and some of the baggage gets in the way as their story progresses. Both characters felt so very, very real to me. Their troubles and doubts were real life stuff that makes us who we are. It was a joy to read each character develop into a stronger couple at the end. So why a .5 star deduction? This is purely a personal preference for me. The authors tie back or repeat items necessary for a reader if they would pick up book 2, for example, to stand alone. This is good for single reads or when the series is released over months. However for a box read, the repetitiveness got the storyline to slow down. So I found myself in skim mode. Like I said, I understand the why, so this just a personal preference quirk. Other than that - I loved Molly and Joe's journey to HEA. This book was gifted by a trusted book friend and she definitely did not steer me wrong. If you are looking for a romance with real life relationship struggles and light on the sex, this is a definite 4.5 out of 5 star recommendation from me.
