Overview

Carved in Stone (Art of Love Series #1) by Donna McDonald

They say you marry a person and not a family, but tell that to a Larson bride.

A year has passed since his ex-wife remarried. Now Will Larson's adult sons have decided he needs their help to start dating again. His growing desperation to date retiring high school art teacher, Jessica Daniels, makes Will think suffering their help might be worth it. The skilled sculptor carves masterpieces from stone but soon discovers that he has a lot left to learn about the art of love.

Even though his sons tease him about not dating, and his ex-wife thinks he is still hung up on her, 53 yr old retired principal and stone sculptor, William Everett Larson, is glad he waited to date until he found 47 yr old high school art teacher, Jessica Daniels. He admires Jessica for her courageous art and for how she has dealt with the trauma of her life. While dating him works for her, Jessica assures Will she is incapable of lasting love, but he refuses to believe it's true. Will is sure the only part of Jessica truly damaged by her past is her heart.

About the ART OF LOVE series

This funny contemporary romance series begins with the stories of the three Larson men. Books 1-3 cover the romances of Will Larson and his two adult sons, Michael and Shane. Each hero in this series is an artist. Each heroine in the series is a bit damaged. Sometimes the stories get a little too real when complicated family relationships make dating, romance, and love even more challenging. This romantic comedy series is very humorous, but also emotionally charged. Books 4 and 5 carry on this tradition with extended family members.

This book is a great read, I was drawn in within the 1st chapter and I couldn't put it down. I loved how hard it was for both characters to find the love they had.

Carved in Stone is a fun grown-up read. The characters are older and more developed. Will and Jessica are interesting, but troubled characters that triumph in the end. I look forward to the rest of the series on the Larson family.....skw

I've always been into older men. And now as I reach my 40s, I find not many books show the renewed fire I feel lately. I am so glad I found this book. Not only did it give a voice to my changing sexuality , it also displayed mature love in a especially hot way. (I am not as worded as Miss Donna, but you get me.)

there is nothing here to discuss in a book club. just graphic sexual content. Not for the mature, serious reader.

This is part of a series, it has about 560 pages. It is almost pornographic in nature. There is a lot of very descriptive foreplay, conversation and sex. There is cursing and some violence. The hero is a fiftyish, harley riding sculpter. He often sculpts male nudes. Himself included. He is also a school principal. A divorced father of two grown sons. The heroine is brash, loud and sleeps around with a lot of men, but everyone loves her anyway, so its okay. She too is an artist.....of vaginas. So, she and the sculpter get along very well, after some rough patches, as does their art work. She teaches art classes to high school students. She has a grown daughter. This novel is about their relationships, family, art, sex and occupations. A lot of this book seemed slow, as the author has a tendency to rehash events over and over, which becomes tedious. The ending was okay. This book was an entertaining read, but not exactly my type of book. It had a smooth flow and was well edited. There were a few funny places. The chase and dating angst, went on way too long. For adults only. AD

Expecting abook about mythological romance. This was not it. The book was modern but so much more read it in a day. Loved the story line of loving and letting go so the you could have a fullfilling life. You cannot always be in a rush or scared to take a chance. Read it you won't be disappointed.

Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. Author could have cut about 300 pages of repetition.

I brought this book on B&N. I was having a hard time finishing the book, so I stopped to read the reviews on both B&N and Amazon. I started reading the reviews because I wanted to know if it was me .... not liking the book. I have read other books by this author and thought this book would be the same. I was sadly mistaken. I chose this book because it was about an older couple, but the heroine, I just could not connect with, the hero and his sons, were a step above the heroine, I tried very hard to finish this book.SPOILER ALERT, PLEASE STOP READING IF YOU PLAN TO READ THIS BOOK. I am not a prude and believe in ... to each m his own...Yet, I just could not make it connect for me, how, a woman like Jessica, strong, beautiful and have it together could be proud of, and enjoy having a personal life with screwing so many men. The material I have read about rape victims, and Jessica's character that she became this way after being raped while pregnant by 3 men (a few months after her husband's death ), she dates a guy sleeps with him and move to another guy, whom she may or may not sleep with...and the guys range from 30's to 68. When her character mentipned meeting the hero's son several months to about a year ago, she thought about picking up his 34 yo son for a one night stand. The men in the book and the women, especially, Jessica (later Carrie, Michael's swishy washy). Enough is Enough. The time I spent on this book, I can never get back. It's 219 pages on my nook, I got to the middle of the book and could take no more. If this was real life, Jessica eould need anther Therapist because the one she has been seeong for 30 years is no good and the rest of the characters NEED therapy especially, Michael. A total waste of my time! I gave this book 2 stars because the author managed to trigger emotions that finally made me decide to walk away from a book without reading the ending.

I wanted to like this book, but from page one, I found myself struggling. Will smiled at least eight times in the first two pages, and the overused words had the editor in me cringing. But I kept reading because I know that I am often over-critical of books I haven't had a hand in. That said, I just couldn't finish this one. I found the characters forced and silly. They acted like teenagers and not mature adults. Overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone.

This was recommended in the "humor" category. It is nothing but soft porn. Will delete it as soon as I submit this review.

A sweet easy read. It held my interest until the end. I’m not entirely certain why this was in the comedy section of my book catalogue. It had a few humorous moments but I would not call it comedy.

I rarely leave reviews on books I just tell my friends read this story by this person. I can't do that here I LOVED this story!!!! Being a "Jessica" myself I really enjoyed the story between will n Jessica but you also fall for wills boys too. The interaction between everyone is great. The love scenes are hot and show us sex is not for the twenty somethings . I will read more by this author
