This was a delightful tale of twists and turns, some good, others not so. But in the end you smile. Cassidy was a young woman that was kind of an outcast in her small town, left on her own since her mother’s passing with nobody to care for her. She wasn’t a ‘lady’, though the man that came in on the stage in his tweed suit and bowler, insisted on treating her like one. She was ornery and used to caring for herself…which leads to sparks. Sparks that shift into other types…and soon everything changes. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book.

The title of this book says it all! Thorne (as he is re-named by our heroine Cassidy) is our alpha male of this book! He comes from out East to Texas, in the town where Cassidy has lived her whole life. He is a gentleman through and through! He and Cassidy are thrown together in many ways in this wonderfully written, nice and long, surprising, and laugh out loud funny book. Add the spankings and discipline and this one is an over the top winner for me!!

TO POWER, BECAUSE, IT REALLY IS ALL THE MATTERS I really enjoyed this romantic mystery suspense western tale with a great cast of characters that keeps the pages turning. Hatred, greed, revenge, corruption, deceit, murder, sabotage, kidnapping, and much more are a part of this tale that takes on several twists and turns along the way. From Baltimore, Maryland, Thornton Prescott Foster Steele, inherits a Foster Ranch left by his late Uncle. He has one year to make a profit or return to Maryland and run the families Shipping business. He has hired Cassidy Hart to haul his belongings as he ships them and to pick him and the rest of his belongings up at the train. What a shock to learn that Cassidy is a woman and not a man as he assumed. Cassidy Hart has lived a very hard twenty years of life. She was born out of wedlock to a mother who became bitter and drilled in Cassie not to trust her heart to a man. Cassidy needs to complete this job, get paid and move on to try and find a place to live without the stigma she has dealt with her entire life. She has a few friends that have offered to help her over the years, but the way the busybodies of town treat her, she won’t harm her friends. Everything will change on one stormy night after an accident, with meddling troublemakers, threats against Thornton, and to save them both, they find themselves married. The plot of the story is full of action and suspense, and many laughing out loud moments. Can a high society man and a simple backwoods country girl make a go at marriage? The relationship between Thorne and Cassie develops, and they find enjoyment being with each other. Secrets will come out; jealousy rears its ugly head, trouble is brewing on the ranch, and people are getting hurt. Thorne is so busy dealing with ranch issues; Cassie feels neglected. Can a couple make a marriage work with so many interferences? The story has several spankings, paddlings, and the use of other implements. A strong-willed foul mouth spunky woman, a dominant controlling man, and when they finally get together, the passion sizzles off the pages.

This was my first book by Tess Matthews, and I will definitely be on the lookout for more. This full length novel was straightforward and easy to follow, with tons of action. An evil villainess has targeted both an Eastern gentleman who inherited the ranch she wanted to buy and an innocent orphaned young woman. Elmyra's schemes to get the ranch actually force Cassidy and Thorne to marry, thus beginning their unconventional courtship. Cattle rustling, attempted murder, kidnapping, and an old mystery keep the characters busy and the reader entertained. Of course, all that danger also means feisty, independent Cassidy spends a great deal of time learning safety and respect over Thorne's knee. Discipline scenes were moderate and explicitly described, while love scenes were mild. There was one small part of the book I did not care for - when Thorne repeatedly ignored and brushed Cassidy off because he was busy. But it was a very small part in a long novel. All in all, it was a great book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

What a delightful story. You can't help laughing when Cassidy and Thornton meet. They both had expectations about the other and neither were right. You feel for her because she is just trying to do the job she was hired to do and then Thornton isn't used to letting woman do the heavy lifting, so to speak. This has plenty of mystery and intrigue, but is also a domestic discipline story with plenty of loving, funny parts. And romance mixed in. I enjoyed this story so much and it was just they right length, though I hope it belongs to a series. What a great read. Bravo Tess Matthews. I I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. This is a historical western. Thorn Steele has arrived to take over the Foster Ranch. Cassidy is hired to help him bring his belongings from town. Thorn left his home to get away from the blue blood society that his family lives in. He is intrigued by Cassidy, a girl who's had a hard life and is homeless. Someone wants his ranch and he will have to fight to keep it. He is not afraid to take a paddle to Cassidy's bottom when she refuses to stay safe. DD with a HEA.

Wow! I loved this book! The storyline is excellent with strong characters to enhance it even more. Cassidy is a strong independent woman who has learned from experience to depend on and take care of herself. Thorne is a strong alpha make with a loving side that runs deep, especially with Cassidy. These characters draw you in and help you to feel a part of this story that was a page turner and hard to put down. With sabotage, cattle rustling, kidnapping, murder, and intrigue, combined with humor, friendships, spankings, and a lot of love, what is not to like! Come join Thorne and Cassidy along with Gus, Tillie, Stan, Edmund, Constance, Royal, Jim, Elmyra, and other wonderful characters on this adventure. Some characters you will hate and some you will love, but all of them will keep you entertained and enjoying this great story. I highly recommend this book! Wow - what an amazing old-fashioned gentleman that caused my heart to go pitter-patter. I loved this book for both main characters, Cassidy and Thornton (Thorne). Cassidy is such a strong person that has faced adversity all of her life but just continues to plug along protecting all of the people that she loves from her “enemies”. Thorn is an old-fashioned gentleman that moves away from his family to be the strong man that he can be. These two come together and through Mother Nature’s whims find time and circumstances to get to know each other and fall in love. There are lots of spanking scenes in this novel that are for discipline reasons, times when I found myself laughing, times when I found myself crying and a great common enemy. I really enjoyed reading this story and was entertained throughout the entire novel waiting and wishing for a happy ending. In addition to these two great main characters, the author has a wonderful talent of providing an amazing supporting cast of characters that I found myself cheering for as well.
