Overview

Cast in Flame (Chronicles of Elantra Series #10) by Michelle Sagara

Any day that starts with dragon arguments is going to be bad

Kaylin returned from the West March in one piece. Now that piece is fraying. She's not at home in the Imperial Palace—and she never intends to be. All she wants is normal garden-variety criminals and a place of her own. Of course, normal in her new life involves a dragon as a roommate, but she can handle that.

She can't as easily handle the new residents to the city she polices, because one of them is Nightshade's younger brother. On a night when she should be talking to landlords in perfectly normal buildings, she's called to the fief—by Teela. A small family disagreement has become a large, complicated problem: Castle Nightshade's latent magic is waking.

And it's not the only thing.

Look for CAST IN HONOR, the next dark and dangerous tale in The Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara.

Me. Sagara is an exceptional storyteller! Kaylin has returned from her journey to the West March and all of her previous problems are right where she left them. Problem #1: Find a place to live. This is made more difficult when your roommate is the last female dragon and every male dragon is being extremely overprotective! Added to this, what landlord is going to take a chance on someone whose last apartment was blown up by enemies.  Plus, a majority of the Barrani population wants your Dragon roommate dead. The male dragons don't want you and the female dragon moving out of the palace so they make a LOT of unreasonable requests of your landlord. So what do you need? You need to find a housing as unusual as you are!  Problem #2: Family can't live with them, can't kill them. Nightshade's brother, Annarion, has followed Kaylin, Teela, and Nightshade back to Elantra and he is very disappointed in what has become of his brother Nightshade.  However, his time in the Hallione has fundamentally changed him and when he visits his brother the castle awakens. Almost like when family comes to visit and they break every piece of glass and every electronic in your house by accident, run for it , and stick you with the clean up. Then, you have Teela, who consider Annarion and Mandoran friends/ family and trying to help them navigate this new world they have awoken to, when other things begin to awaken. Problem#3: Ancient powers are awakening. And they are going after Kaylin and all she cares about.  Danger is around every corner and Kaylin and her friends have to stay on their toes to keep ahead of it! There is a lot of information in this book! We learn small & Squawky's name. We also meet and learn the name of the of another important character.  As always , the hardest part is to wait the year for the next book!

I really like the series but at this point it feels like I'm reading the same book over and over. 'Kaylin accidentally gets into a world-ending situation, no one tells her anything, she fixes it without knowing how'. I will still pick up the next one but I'm hoping for some fresh material. I'd like to see her actually grow a bit.

The entire Chronicles of Elantra series has captured my attention for some time now.  I am interested in finding out how Kaylin will settle into her new home and especially why this home is so different.  What exactly have the twelve become?

I absolutely love this series! Definately a favorite....One of those series that you can read each book over and over...I think Kaylin seems to grow more into herself in this book....she keeps looking into herself and learning how to come to terms with who she is and what shes lived thru..kudos!....it was fast paced and the humor and character interaction was definately apreciated!...And, am I the only one who would be interested in a one off, spin-off of a book mainly about Bellusdeo and the Emperor?...Could be fun!!!

Cast in Flame is well worth the wait. It is, like all the previous episodes, filled with all the features that make the Chronicles of Elantra series a must have for any true urban fantasy collection. I definitely recommend this book to all readers who enjoy a good adventure/action tale.

This is one of my very favorite series. The books always end too soon. I am anxiously waiting for the next one.

I loved the book, Ms. Sagara has fast become one of my favorite authors. The storyline was engaging, deft humor balanced the angst that prevented the storyline from becoming too grim and boring. However, there is one thing that Ms. Sagara is doing that is becoming increasingly frustrating...the cliffhanger books! The past several books have all been cliffhangers. I completely understand if a series of books is supposed to be some sort of trilogy or quartet but there's no mention of that in her books. It makes for very frustrating reading, especially towards the last chapter when you know there's no way the author can tie up the loose ends.

I love this series and this author. Although the overall plot moved forward only in minor (though VERY interesting) ways, the story was fast paced and engaging.   Like another reviewer, I have to admit that I'd like to see Kaylin grow in knowledge rather than always accidentally saving the world.  That's not going to stop me from buying the next book the day it's released though!

This is the best in this series. Kaylin has grown in each book and in this one becomes much more interesting as a person. I have enjoyed this series and after this book, I can't wait to read the next. Write fast Michelle!
