Cat McCormick has the innate ability, as her Grandmother, to "dreamslip" into others' dreams. A recent college graduate, she moves to the West Coast to train under her Grandmother, to help reestablish the family P.I. firm and also learn how to use her gift to her best ability. On the flight to Seattle, she has a dreamslipping episode, which throws her into a mystery where she finds herself in an undercover position in an Evangelical Church.. The suspense in this book had me turning the pages. The plot contains spirituality, betrayals, truths, lies, murder, and a rekindled love. The thought of the dreamslipping was intriguing. And a shocking ending. This is the 1st book in the Dream Slipping series and I am looking forward to the next book. Definitely recommend.

is a satisfying read, especially if you're looking for something a little different CAT IN THE FLOCK by Lisa Brunette The First Dreamslippers Mystery After graduating college Cathedral McCormick, better known as Cat, moves to Seattle to learn the PI business from her grandmother, Amazing Grace, and eventually take over the business allowing her gran to retire. Cat is also planning to train with her grandmother to better manage her unique ability. Cat, like Grace, is able to slip into other people's dreams. A young girl's horrifying dream, possibly symptomatic of abuse, starts what will be Cat's first case as a PI. Is the girl truly in danger? Will she be able to find her to help? Her investigation will lead her back to Missouri as she goes undercover at the Plantation Church. Will she discover the truth behind the dreams? Or will she wind up a victim? CAT IN THE FLOCK is a unique mystery filled with hot topics such as domestic abuse, spirituality, and hypocrisy in evangelical fundamentalism. Brunette handles all of these topics with a non-judgmental, delicate hand, showing the good that sometimes exists within the bad. Cat herself follows her own journey which leads to new realizations about herself and her own beliefs, as well as her relationships with both her mother and grandmother. Although the topics involved in CAT IN THE FLOCK are heavy and filled with gravitas, the book has a lightness and a joy within. I love Amazing Grace with her openness to new, and old, ideas, but my favorite character is Cat's dad. He brings humor without baggage and is just plain fun; a distinct counterpoint to the relationship between the women in the family. CAT IN THE FLOCK provides a fascinating look at spirituality and religion along with the power of relationships, both positive and negative. The inclusion of the dreamworld showcases the emotions and drama of those involved in this intricately plotted mystery. This first book in the Dreamslippers Series is a satisfying read, especially if you're looking for something a little different. FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a copy of this book in the hopes I would review it.

Cat has the ability to slip into the dreams of others. After finishing college, she moves from St Louis to Seattle to join her Grandma Grace's private investigation business, where they will both be able to use their dreamslipping abilities to help them solve crimes. As Cat's father states, "We know you're pursuing your dream - ha, in this case, literally." Before Cat even gets off the plane, she's thrown into her first case, involving a homeless mother and child, a break-in, the Church, domestic abuse, and murder. Each chapter begins with a dream that Cat has slipped into. How are all of these seemingly disparate dreams related? It's interesting to see how the author weaves all of the threads together. The characters are interesting and likable, with full backstories. There are plenty of religious references, but it never feels as if the author is preaching or imposing her religious beliefs on the reader. There's even some romance for Cat - and Grandma Grace! A very satisfying read. Includes book club questions at the end, as well as a sneak peek at the next book in the series, "Framed and Burning". I look forward to reading it. Warnings: Coarse language, sex scenes, sexual references, LGBT themes. I received this book in return for an honest review. Cathedral “Cat” McCormick has just graduated with a degree in criminal justice. Her grandmother, Granny Grace runs a private investigative firm in Seattle and offers Cat a job. But Granny Grace has a special ability called dreamslipping. She has practiced her skills and uses this to help solve her case. Now she is going to train Cat to follow in her footsteps. Cat meets a woman and her daughter while they are hiding from her husband, a leader of a church in Seattle. While investigating him she learns this church is more of a cult and has ties to a megachurch in St. Louis. Cat heads to St. Louis to investigate and take care of business to protect the woman and her daughter. I have read the second and third books in the Dreamslippers’s series so I was excited to review the first book to see how it all started. I love Granny Grace and Cat. They are a couple of strong but realistic women. I love how they step up and help those that need it. But they are flawed like any real person. All you can do is the best you can. This probably sounds creepy, but I loved the cult. Talk about some of the worst people you can find. They get what they deserve but not until some have lost their innocence and lives. Perfect bad guys for this story. This is a great series and one that I strongly recommend. I loved all three books and can’t wait to see what happens next. I received Cat in the Flock from Sage’s Blog Tours for free. This has not influenced my opinion of this book in any way.

An original premise and a compelling mystery! Cat is a fledgling detective with a highly unusual ability: She can slip into the dreams of others. With the help of her irrepressible grandmother, Granny Grace, Cat embarks on a mission to save a young girl in peril, and it takes Cat from the streets of Seattle all the way to a midwestern megachurch. I really enjoyed the quirky characters in this novel, and the strange and vivid dreams in the story put a fresh spin on the mystery genre. A quick and entirely pleasurable read.
