@Anonymous - Did you even read the book yet? Star wars has always had women as main characters and it is a super diverse universe. They are still making more movies so I'm not sure what you are talking about? Guarantee that Episode 8 will generate at least a billion in revenue...

This is the first novel in the Star Wars series I've read since Disney took over and I wasn't disappointed. It must be difficult to write characters we already have an idea about from trailers for the upcoming film. Yet the author does a great job painting a picture of the key players for the creation of the Death Star.

I like the plot and the added dimension to seeing in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. New and exciting characters! Do not look at this book as part of the triple trilogy. Look at it as a new group that had an impact on how the rebels find a weakness in the Deathstar and where it leaves off and starts in the beginning of New Hope.

James Luceno writing in the Star Wars universe never disappoints. Fantastic read. Excellent pacing. Great prelude to the upcoming film.

Catalyst is a quick and pleasant read for both newcomers to Star Wars books and regular readers alike. It tires in nicely to the new film, and sync up well with novels like Tarkin, Ashoka, and A New Dawn. It you want to get a deeper understanding of the conflicts you see at the beginning of Rogue One, this is a must read.

Super mild spoilers. This book should be required reading before seeing Rogue One. The story brings so much depth to the characters we will see in the film, especially Galen Erso and Orson Krennic. The novel also went a lot deeper into kyber crystals than we've seen in the new canon (which was nice timing after the Ahsoka novel - I feel like we've gotten a lot on kybers recently). The book left me wanting more about Jyn's character, but perhaps that's the best way for it to end since it is a prequel to Rogue One!

I enjoyed learning about the Erso family and how the super weapon was built. The backstory of Tarkin and Krennic was fascinating. Can't wait for the movie.

I hadn't realized how much they whiffed with the Force Awakens until I saw Rogue One. Catalyst is a very worthy set-up to that movie

It's a slow story without to much action but still a great read. It really sets up the characters of rouge one and gives a great look at we were they came from.

Given the events in Rogue One, we all know those characters' stories are over. But if you loved Jyn, Saw, Galen and Krennic, you don't want to miss this prequel, which does a great job informing the film. How does rebelious freedom fighter Saw Gerrera become a trusted ally of the Ersos? Why do Tarkin and Krennic so despise each other? How did Galen and Krennic go from staunch friends to bitter adversaries? Luceno answers these questions and more, all while weavimg a thrilling tale and painting a vivid picture of the early years of the Empire.

I did find the book a bit slow and drawn out, felt it needed more action and detailed adventure but I will still appreciate the new movie more now!

I really regret spending money on this book and wish I could get a refund. The story was weak, plot holes, unlikeable characters, and illogical story lines completely made it a waste of time. Very disappointing. I had several other books by this author in my wishlist but have now removed them.

Hey, I'm a girl and I think having main female characters in Star Wars is an awesome idea! What's even better is having the balance of male vs female main characters in it as well! And it doesn't affect how the plot of Star Wars goes either!!!! Good book, by the way.

I drove all the way to Barnes and Noble to get this book because I wanted to read about the Emperor. The Emperor wasn't in this book at ALL. Very disappointed! Wish I could leave 0 stars.
