Overview

*A sizzling romance from a USA TODAY Bestselling Author*

*This is a full-length novel (NO cliffhanger)*

Dani has her future all planned out. She's not the type to fall for a bad boy, no matter how panty-melting his grin is or how shamelessly he flirts. But Damon draws her in and slowly, she uncovers the secrets he hides: underneath his arrogance lies a lonely soul, his flirting smile masks despair.

Damon arrives in Dani's life against his will. His father insisted he change high-schools right in his senior year. He can't wait to turn eighteen and be in charge of his own life. He knows he should stay away from Dani, but she's so lovely he just can't keep himself from gravitating around her.

When life throws at them more than they can handle, their paths split.

But Damon is determined to win her back. When he steps back into her life one year later, hell-bent on proving her he's become the man she deserves, will he convince her to lower her guard and give their love a second chance?

I couldn't put this series down and very disappointed when I was done reading them.

I loved this book. It is cute, witty, and refreshing. I do not give long reviews with spoilers, because I myself do not like to read a review and then no longer need to read the book. All I will say is that if you read this story, you will not be disappointed.

Intoxicating words to make you keel over, I'll catch you if you fall and he grounds me, his stares spears me, you need to read the book to grasp the essence of it. You absolutely made me laugh and I mean really laugh out loud. I was sighing and going all 'ga ga' with Dani and Damon. The teasing and banter, spot on. Their wits made me laugh so much so it made up for Chase's potty mouth but he grows on you. Chase is a character but he added the right spice to a hot story and he got his girl. The story moved swiftly and intelligently with no re-reading a page to understand what was going on. I like the fierce impulses that radiated throughout. When the characters lead up to their playfulness or other exploits, I was overwhelmed with emotions. Whether I made sounds of a 'sigh' or grimace or flinch, or showed distress or hmm . . . I did it all. This tale made me so happy because how it ended. I can tell you I was irritated with Damon but you needed the bad boy attitude to pull off this story. There were times Damon irritated me like this part, he said to Dani, "Here's some friendly advice; don't throw yourself in a man's way if you don't want to be touched." Boy I got all huffy and said a few words of my own. Got to get my emotions in check, duh! Where there's a bad boy you know a good girl is close by and a nerd herd to boot, just added spice to the mix. I liked the pursuit and I'm here for you kind of thing. I was cracking up when Dani's auto-correct on her phone sends quite the message to Damon , "I meant cookies!!!" or "I meant Linkin Park!!! OMG!!! I'm not saying, read the book. Guess what the same thing happened to me many times, thank you very much. Another laughable part when Hazel summarize Lord of the Rings, the Gollum guy to Damon, he never seen the movie or read the book. You just have to read the book to get the gist of it. Love all the characters, each one contributed to the climax (no pun intended) of this story. The focus remained on Dani and Damon, how they are meant to be and how the both of them feed off of each other whether to have the comfort each lack in their family or an ear to listen when they needed someone to hear their ranting and raving and a hug when they needed the comfort and warmth of someone who cares. Dani's brother James, aww . . . perfect brother, one who will drive three hours and pick up ice cream just to comfort his sister who needed advice about something concerning Damon. Damon . . . Damon . . . Damon swoon worthy, "You hurt my sister I will beat you." "I used to fight, remember? I'd knock you out in no time." Sounds fun don't it? Well there's more and I mean much more excitement and behind the scene of anger, danger, hope, healing and family. Just the right amount of action and fisticuff but what I thoroughly enjoyed, the author's writing style, the wide range of storytelling in the most simplistic way that leaves a part of the story in your heart. Excellent! I received a digital download in exchange for a review. Thank you, Darlene Cruz

So much fun and sexiness! This is Dani's story, if you are a fan of the Lost series then you met her in James story, Dani is his sister. In this story we go back before James and Parker stories to when Dani is still in high school and a new boy moves to town, Damon. Damon is angry at the world but Dani is having it so she puts him in his place, just what Damon needed. Who knew these two would be friends and kindred spirits but their fathers aren't happy about it. Sadly, Dani and Damon spend a chunk of time apart, when they end up at the same college, well, will the same sparks fly? Has Damon really changed his ways? Will Dani be willing to open her heart again? I loved Dani and Damon's journey which has the added benefit of giving you some other insights into James and Parker along the way since the timeline is a bit different. Layla Hagen delivers another fun, sexy ride to escape into.

I wanted to BE Dani, seriously! Minor spoilers alerts!!! "I got my sh*t together, and I want you, Dani. I will accept nothing less. I will fight for it, and I won't play fair all the time. I need you." ~ Damon This was my first novel by Author, Layla Hagen, and I really wasn’t ready for it to end. I felt transported back to the high school years of my life, only these were the one that I never experienced. Quite simply, I wanted to BE Dani and had a blast experiencing all of those cool firsts with Damon. That feeling is incredibly addictive. Dani is bit of a nerd and so is her bestie, Hazel. But Dani is also an affluent teenager with a warm and loving older brother named James who makes up for their two cold and distant parents. Enter bad boy Damon to shake up Dani’s world. In the process, they both come into their own and develop into strong and very likable new adults as circumstances challenge their relationship. 'The ground has been shaking beneath my feet since Mom died, and only regained balance when I met Dani. She makes me face my pain and fight it instead of masking it with anger.' ~ Damon I was fascinated by Damon’s attachment to his mother, his method of earning money and then his ability to recognize when it was time to change his M.O. for the better. And I loved Dani’s relationship with her brother James. I had some serious brother envy going on while reading about the fun these two had together, seeing how they supported one another and reading the great advice James gave Dani. "You will feel when it’s right. I’m not talking about those times when you’re both hot and bothered. Sex always seems like a good idea right then. I’m talking about moments when you’re talking, or you’re not even next to each other, but you think about him. If you’re ready for more, you’ll know it. If he’s the right guy, he’ll understand." ~ James What else can I gush about? Well, I loved the banter between Dani and Damon, the pacing of their growing emotional and physical attachment and even the conflict that complicates their ability to be together. This is a mature young adult-new adult hybrid novel, and it’s one of the things I loved most about it. Teenagers having sex makes some people uncomfortable, but not this reader - especially not when it's done so well and fits the characters' story and evolution. I loved that we got to see more than just the senior year in Dani and Damon’s life. Even the supporting characters go through some dramatic changes. I really didn’t want their story to be over, and I actually exclaimed out loud in protest when I got to the last sentence. Fortunately, the epilogue gave us a nice look into their HEA future, a small consolation because all good things eventually must come to an end. I savored Caught in Us, and I look forward to reading any future title of Layla Hagen's that has an intriguing synopsis. She certainly knows how to deliver!

I love this book. Dani and Damon is a classic cliche of good girl falls for bad boy but the journey is worth reading and the twists and turns in their path keep you turning the page.

Caught In Us looks like a story about a rich good girl from the wealthy part of town being attracted to a bad boy from the wrong side of town. But their lives are not what they appear to be. Dani is from a very wealthy family but her parents basically ignore her. Damon was raised by his single mother and they bearly scraped by. When she died Damon was sent to live with his wealthy father who he had never met. Dani and Damon met in high school where they didn't like each other much and Dani told Damon that he was a jerk for treating people so badly. Both fathers told them to stay away from each other but, like most teenagers, that made them want to be together even more. This is quite an emotional story and made me feel sad for Dani because of her home life. Dani and her best friend, Hazel, were funny when they thought of themselves as nerds that guys don't notice. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Damon when he lost his mother and had to move in with his father who he hated. I liked the way this story spanned over many years letting us follow the lives of the two main characters as they matured but never stopped loving each other. Even though I liked this story I did find the description of how Dani felt EVERY time she saw Damon irritating. Please note I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Caught in Us is a beautifully inspiring and utterly ravishing journey of allowing the light of hope and love to not only surround but penetrate the broken and hurting hearts of those that are living in darkness. Even those who find themselves wandering in the fringes of the gray areas between light and dark can choose to have the sun warm their face once again. There is never a shortage of hope when love is allowed to break through the impenetrable barriers around your heart. Never turn away from the most precious things in life because they could easily be the very things that could save you. Dani would seem to have the perfect life with her rich family, good grades, and bright future, but how often are those who seem to have everything really have nothing when they take a closer look? She finds the one things she desperately longs for in the new boy at school. Until Damon came along, she never realized just how empty her life was without the simple and pure love that he offers her. Even with the demons that Damon wrestles with, Dani can see the good and beauty in him no matter how worthless he thinks he is. She breathes life and hope into his grieving and broken heart. No matter how much he knows he should stay away from her to keep from dragging her down, his heart won’t let him walk away. She comes to mean everything to him, and he won’t turn his back on her. Will these two lonely souls find a way to stay together in order to heal each other, or will their choice be taken away in the name of doing what’s best for them? I absolutely fell in love with Dani and Damon throughout their story. They found their completion in the other, and they cherished the precious bond that they were building day after day. It was so wonderful to see how Damon treated Dani with such a depth of love, respect, and kindness in every way possible. He made her laugh, built up her confidence, and made sure she knew that he really saw her. While he couldn’t look into her soul or read her mind, he could tell what she needed and he gave it to her. Dani knew without a doubt that Damon cared about her, cherished their friendship, and did his best to protect her from himself and others that might try to hurt her. They were such an amazing couple whose miraculous love literally took my breath away. Layla Hagen has a tremendously incredible talent of opening your heart to her wonderful characters from the very first word. You feel every written word as if it originated from the beating of your own heart. The pace of her story is so natural and beautifully fluid, and the storyline will remain with you long after the last word has been read. This is one author that is not to be missed. The soul that is found within these pages will touch you like nothing else can. I challenge you to walk away from her books and not feel the light, hear the passion, and experience a one-of-a-kind love.

A good girl meets bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks type of story. Caught in Us is the third book in the Lost series and can be read as a standalone. There's a lot of growth, heartbreak, and angst in here centering around broken pasts and tragic events. One thing I liked was that the two main protagonists' relationship was not rushed. It gradually progressed from friendship to something more and allowed them to heal and find themselves and each other. I also liked that we got to see some of the previous characters still involved and to see where they were at in their lives. It was like a mix of learning old and new. As a whole, great story!!
