Do not buy this book. Rife with technical inaccuracies, clearly written by someone who understands only a very narrow slice of information security. The author is woefully lost when it comes to Linux, one of the premier penetration testing tools, as well as a large segment of the server environment in most enterprises. I'm not talking about "EC-Council says this, so just humor them...", I'm talking about out and out incorrect technical information. I swallowed a lot of this with a grain of salt, but the kicker for me was one of the end-of-chapter questions. The correct answer was to use the windows "type" command to output the contents of an NTFS alternate datastream. However, the author chose to explain the use of the "cat" command to do the same. There's only one problem. Cat exists on linux/unix systems, whereas NTFS is exclusive to Windows systems. This was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. I'm taking this book back where I bought it tomorrow and picking up an alternate. Hopefully, the other author has put a bit more effort into his work.
