The author was born in Guyana. She attended Guyanese College in the city of Georgetown. Before migrating to the United States she taught at an elementary school in the county of Berbice. In the United States, she attended York College in Queens, New York, where she graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude). She now lives in Florida with her husband Neville.
