Gr 3-7 A useful overview of the funda mentals of basketball, with basic, but not detailed, information on passing, shooting, rebounding, defense, and a few plays. There is less in this book about playing center than there is about simply playing sound, fundamental bas ketball. However, Sullivan manages to slip in enough information about play ing the center position to attract many boys and girls who play the position on their local team. More advanced play ers, who want to move beyond the ba sic elements of basketball, will find that this book is not detailed or informative enough. Sullivan's black-and-white photographs do a good job in illustrat ing the concepts he explains in the text; Madden's cartoons add some humor. In all, this is a good book for any begin ning basketball player. And, because it gives some information on the most ob vious elements of the game, it will prove useful to beginning guards and forwards as well as centers.
