I loved this book. It's hard-hitting, and looks at faith for what it is...difficult. As someone who struggles tremendously with my faith, I was happy to see it wasn't a sermon but rather a reminder that no matter how bad you "think" you are, God still loves you and can forgive anything you've done wrong.  The characters were believable, and grew and changed throughout the book. Their journey made me feel a range of emotions, from happiness through frustration and into joy. I'll be honest, I cried my way through the last couple chapters. It's hard to find a book that makes me FEEL and THINK. This one did both. Read it. It's and easy read, and well worth the time you'll put into it!

I was gripped from the beginning and always curious about each character...where they had been and where they were going. The theme of forgiveness, of others and one's self, is explored and exposed from several different facets. The consequences of UNforgiveness are felt, in some ways, as obvious warnings to the reading, but simultaneously felt as empathy as the reader identifies with each character's struggle. The positive results of forgiveness are woven throughout the story as an enticement to both the main characters and the reader. The tension between the choice of accepting forgiveness or hiding in shame runs deep in the book and adds depth to the story and the characters."Chain of Mercy" would also be a good read for teenagers as it deals with serious life issues in a graceful, realistic manner. If you like Christian fiction, you'll love it. I believe it would also be a good book to share with friends or loved ones who would not normally read Christian fiction, especially if they are struggling with shame or unforgiveness, because it empathizes with those feelings but gently moves the characters towards forgiveness, love, and grace.

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won't be my last. I was pulled into the lives of the characters and the story line from the first pages. It is an honest and sometimes gritty read about characters that are hurting and trying to overcome their pasts. It is a beautiful story conveying that there is forgiveness and God does give second chances when we are willing to turn everything over to Him. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review. I definitely look forward to the next book in the series.

Chain of Mercy is an incredible read! I thought this was a beautiful story that tells about the power of forgiveness, including within yourself. The reader will need to grab their tissues as they will need them reading this book. Fabulous book!! 5 plus stars.

"Chain of Mercy" was a mesmerizing book. It had an incredible depth of character and plot, and the story was real and believable. The story line is current and relevant to today's complicated society. The book left me with the thought that it is vital and necessary to temper our moral stances with extreme compassion for victims. I recommend this book both as a "good read" and a thought-provoking story.

I just finished reading Chain of Mercy by Brenda Anderson. I had been wanting to read this book since I first found out about it and I have to say…it surpassed my expectations. It was a story with intricate characters and interweaving storylines. My attention was grabbed and kept through to the last page. This is the first book in her Coming Home series. These characters share the complexities of real life, they are relatable and “real.” My favorite, probably was Richard. She showed how he struggled with real feelings and how wanting to do the right thing is always best and we always have the strength (from God) but it’s not always easy and sometimes can be misunderstood by others. My heart went out to him starting on page one even though I didn’t realize why at the time. The topics are deep, allowing the reader a chance to escape into a “great book” but it also caused me to think, “What would I do?” if the situation was one I was facing. She also so flawlessly showed how one decision made by one individual has a ripple effect on so many others - affecting others’ lives deeply. Makes me stop and think about my actions and reactions and how they will affect not only myself but those around me - maybe even for years to come. This is Ms. Anderson’s debut novel, and I can’t wait to see what topics she will explore in her next book. Will she continue with the people I’ve connected with or will she introduce me to a whole new group of friends? Forgiveness is just one of the many themes discussed, but yet it’s so relevant to everyone’s life in some way. We all need forgiveness for something - sometimes in the form of forgiving others, sometimes to forgive ourselves, sometimes a combination of both. I am privileged to have this opportunity to read and review this novel. I would recommend it to everyone - men, women - anyone who enjoys a great book that entertains while reinforcing our real purpose in life. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.

I started reading the day I bought the book. But it was a very busy time for me and I couldn't focus solely on the book. After two chapters, I realized it would drive me nuts to read this book that slowly. I set it aside until my world slowed down. Once I got to focus on the book, I finished it in two days. The characters were so real and flawed. The conflict was palpable. The snow was so cold. I lived the story with the characters. Each heartache, twist, and turn. Brenda is an expert at getting readers inside her characters' heads, making them real, and helping the reader understand why they are the way they are. The character journeys were life-changing. The subject was tough and gritty. Abortion from the father's perspective is a new take on the story and Anderson handled it well.

Richard hits rock bottom when the consequences of his lifestyle are nearly too much to bear. This authentic contemporary fiction explores the impact of life choices on individuals and families.
