From USA Today bestselling author Ophelia London comes a brand new mystery series that will have you laughing out loud...

Maren Colepepper thought she had it all: a career at a fashion magazine, a successful boyfriend, and a glamorous New York lifestyle. She thought wrong. When her glamorous life suddenly goes belly up, Maren finds herself forced to take the only job she can find at a small town newspaper in the tiny northern California hometown she fled ten years ago.

While Maren expected her new job in no-wheres-ville to kill her with boredom, She never expected to be front row to a shooting on her very first day! Worse yet, Maren is knocked unconscious at the scene, and when she comes to, the body has gone missing and she's been scooped by another reporter. Talk about a bad first impression. Now Maren is hot on the trail of the story of a lifetime, involving a shady lumber mill and the foresting of old-growth redwoods—a ginormous crime in her neck of the woods! Between her suddenly flirty new editor, her supremely hot new neighbor, and a lovably meddling family, Maren find small town life anything but boring. But if she can't find the shooter before he strikes again, it may even become deadly!

"Maren Colepepper is the Stephanie Plum of small-town Northern California. I was laughing all the way through this book!"
—Gemma Halliday, New York times bestselling mystery author

About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Ophelia London was born and raised among the redwood trees in beautiful northern California. Once she was fully educated, she decided to settle in Florida, but her car broke down in Texas, and she's lived in Dallas ever since. A cupcake and treadmill aficionado (obviously those things are connected), she spends her time watching arthouse movies and impossibly trashy TV, while living vicariously through the characters in the books she writes. In addition to her mystery series, Ophelia has authored several romance novels, and she encourages her readers to visit her on social media...but don't call when The Vampire Diaries (or Dawson's Creek) is on.

This is the start to a very cute series. It’s a cozy mystery. It is also very hilarious. I had so many highlights that it was more highlighted then not when it was all done! Being a cozy mystery, I should have realized the name of Maren Colepepper was definitely an investigative reporter’s name! I didn’t get it until after it was read! Silly me! Maren’s life had been turned upside down when she was dumped by her boyfriend (on a piece of Chinese food cartons no less), her best friend dumped her because she didn’t believe Maren’s story that her best friend’s boyfriend was cheating on her, and fired from her job all, and evicted from her apartment in a short period of 48 hours. So she goes home and gets a job at the local paper there. Talk about depressing! Maren’s mother writes a blog and shamelessly and hilariously puts her family drama on it. Talk about embarrassing your family but it makes for a funny blog to others in the town who read it. Maren’s sister, Piper, is a popular acting star in their community and Maren has a friend and confidant in her. Piper goes on a date with a guy that does some pretty wild stuff and it too makes me giggle. Her old childhood best friend who just stopped talking to her and has been mean to her since high school is back at her job of being mean to her. Again, very funny story there. And last but not least is her next door neighbor, Patrick. He is my newest book boyfriend! But maybe you might like Eric, her boss, better. You just have to read it because I swear you will be giggling a lot! Maren is given her first assignment on a protest as a hazing for her new job. She only seems to pass out the two days she goes there. The second time, I am laughing so hard as the story unfolds! Anyway, Maren is determined to find the source of the protesting that everyone says is nothing. But, she really falls into a story that has herself way too deep into trouble and not all of it dangerous! Some of it is spent kissing! Not gonna tell you anymore but it is funny, informative, investigative, with a twist of mystery and a little dab of romance! So if you love lying in mud, rain (lots and lots of rain), family drama written out for everyone to see, sneaking around to get the story, being kissed by two guys (ewe to one of them), constantly getting rained on(figuratively and physically), with mystery and romance and a whopping dose of laughter than this is for you! "Even in a rainstorm, Maren..." He cupped my face in his hands. "You're sunshine."

I really enjoyed this first book in Ophelia London's new Maren Colepepper mystery series. Maren's returned to her hometown feeling defeated. However, returning home involves her in a mystery, and romance. The twists and turns in this story make it a winner.

This was a great only issues were the fact that she used her cell while driving. She read a text from her sister, while she did wait for a red light to reply.....really. Then there was the part when it said she was steering the car.with one hand while going through her notes!!!!!! REALLY? If it was not for that I would give it 5 stars and say for ages teen and up. There is making out, but no sex scenes.

This is a great book to start a new series with. Once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. It has the perfect amount of suspense and humor mixed with romance. I can't wait to keep reading this series.

I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This was my first book by Ophelia London and I'm looking forward to reading more from her and especially more from the Maren Colepepper series. This was a great mystery that had me guessing until the end. It was also very funny. I loved all the characters and the witty dialogue. Highly recommended.

I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite series. I couldn't put down until I was finished. Maren wants to be an investigative reporter and will stop at nothing to become one. And Patrick...yum, just yum! I can see lots of adventures in their future and I'm going to be there to read all about them!
