Overview

Chance For Freedom (Chances Are) by Tess St. John

Haunted from his years of service to The West Africa Squadron, where he endeavored to stop the trafficking of slaves, Captain Malcolm Westbourne is assigned to the disappearances of orphans in England.

Miss Katherine Ashby is thrilled when Malcolm arrives to protect her orphans, but her happiness is short-lived when he insists on an explanation of why she rejected his courtship a year ago. Katherine is falling in love with Malcolm, but must confront what happened to her as a child if she desires a future with him.

Malcolm had never experienced the instant attraction he felt when first being introduced to Katherine, but he also sees the fear in her eyes. He pursues her with kindness, humor, and patience in an attempt to gain her trust.

When Malcolm's investigation turns deadly, he, too, must face the demons of his past. Will Katherine and he break free from the shackles binding them and learn to trust each other, or will they be held prisoner to the past forever?

CHANCE FOR FREEDOM is Book ~ 2 in the Chances Are Series. Each book stands alone, but might be more enjoyable read in sequence.

Just read this book and i couldnt put it down. Love how they tie the characters in from the last book. This book could also be read on its own. When is Part Three coming out?

This is a fantastic story with Malcolm and Katherine. I enjoyed reading about Katherine learning to trust Malcolm with his gentle way of helping her get use to him. She had been abrused as a child and did not trust any man outside of her father and brother in law. Malcolm is in the Royal Navy and is searching to find the children that have gone missing from orphanages, that will probably be sold as slaves in other countries. The book is exciting from start to finish.

The character interaction is amazingly real; love the tie in to the previous book. (Yes, each book in the series can be read alone, but I went back and refamilarized myself with the family members and friends. It makes a wonderful read.) And there are just enough plot twists to heighten the interest level. I could only continue to root for Malcom as he struggles to successfully complete his assignment and break from his past.

Loved this book !! Tess did not (nor does she ever) disappoint. I have not read many historical romances but Tess made the characters in this one, enjoyable and real.. Adventures, romance, intrigue, sadness and joyfulness made these characters a pleasure to read. What a sweet joy that Amelia finally spoke. I am sure Last Chance will be wonderful and I can't wait to read it.

...from an established author. Character inconsistencies and plot jumps throughout. Just not my cup of tea. Wanted to like the book, but struggled to fimish.
