Change of Address: 80 Years of Searching for Utopia by Barbara E West

This is the story of a life and times: A recollection of many moves within the United States and Mexico in search of that "utopia" everyone dreams of and how the people we meet and the things, no matter how great or small, happening in our lifetime affect how we live and view not just our lives, but those of others around us. The brief synopses of the various years at the beginning of chapters allows the reader a chance to reflect, to remember and relate to them.

About the Author

Barbara West was born at the height of the "great depression" and grew up in Washington, D.C. as mass migration was taking families to the suburbs during World War II and Korea, and experienced the excitement of a young dynamic leader and his death. She was married to a man who held a fairly high position in the federal government when he was transferred to San Francisco during the time of its prominence as the home of the "flower children" and the "Haight Ashbury" where she became involved in the west coast's Wall Street expansion and growth. Six years later a second marriage and move to Orange County, CA, led to the decision to "drop out" and move to Hawaii where she stayed for eight plus years during the time real estate was rising so rapidly. A move back to the East Coast began an exploration of Southern State's living before making yet another move, this time to Mexico, before ultimately returning to the South following the "real estate bubble burst." During those years she related her many home moves and personal observations in email "travelogues" and was encouraged by family and friends to write a book of her experiences. She and her husband have lived in Aiken, SC, for the past three years.
