About the Author
Coming out of former George Washington Carver HS in Waco, Texas, Mr. Perkins received inspiration from two special teachers -- the late Robert E. Lee, a renown band director, and Thomas Jefferson Washington, a brilliant math instructor. Following graduation from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Math in 1971, he worked 33 years as an intelligence officer with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) in Washington, DC. During those years, he also formed two highly successful entities--a gospel band and a Christian coed volleyball league (CCVL)--both the largest of their kind in Northern Virginia. Upon retirement from federal service in 2004, Calvary Christian School in Dumfries, Virginia hired him to teach both high school math and band. He currently teaches both band and math (grade levels 6-12) at Aquilla Independent School District. Charley A. Helper is the first publication released from his new business (Music & Math Masters Studio LLC) though he has plans to eventually publish material he has authored as band composer in Virginia and Texas. Mr. Perkins has a devoted wife Rosemary (40+ years) and they proudly boast of one son, daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren.
