Editorial Reviews

"This book broke my heart. It deals with a very difficult subject; one that society would rather sweep under the rug...This book is not only for teens, but also for parents. It calls for parents to value their children and to always put them first. I think this is a great book for young adults to read as it puts everything in perspective, and will help both young adults and parents become more knowledgeable in terms of protecting themselves and their loved ones. Five stars."

"This book talks about a lot of things that teens nowadays would experience."
CM Magazine
"Charmed is the gold standard of what hi/lo titles can be. Highly Recommended."
The Canadian-based Orca Soundings series fulfills the wishes of countless librarians and teachers by providing well-written, relevant stories geared toward lower level readers. These slender books are an easy sell with their colorful, teen-savvy covers and edgy titles. A broad range of topics and viewpoints allow readers plenty of choices for individual reading preferences, as demonstrated by four recent additions. Charmed tells a much darker story. Izzy is a teenage girl saddled with her mother's obnoxious live-in boyfriend and the uncomfortable label of "white trash." When things become unbearable at home, Izzy moves in with her dropout boyfriend, despite the strange and scary people he hangs out with. Gradually she becomes entrapped in a prostitution ring, where she is regularly drugged, beaten, and raped. The sex and violence are not graphic but implied, along the lines of Go Ask Alice. Readers interested in that kind of gritty drama would probably like this book as well. There are eighteen previous books in the series. Most are suitable for middle school through high school readers. There are many reasons why teens find themselves uninterested in reading, but these books are great tools for luring them back. Dillon wakes me up. I fell asleep in the boots and leather mini-skirt and nothing else. He's brought a friend home. The friend is grinning down at me. I yank the sleeping bag over me. His name is Barrel, and he's big and round like one.

"She'll do," he says. Then he leaves.

"Do what?" My head is pounding.

"Nothing. Don't worry about it." Dillon heads for the shower. "Go back to sleep."

So I do.

This right here is the reason I wish we could do refunds. The book is 62 pages and such a giant waste of money. The writer obviously doesn't have a clue when it comes to the craft as this reads like a junior high girl's diary: jumpy, sporadic and senseless. There are tense changes, grammatical errors and the whole thing is telling with only maybe three showing scenes. Granted, it is an accurate portrayal of how many girls are swept up in the life, but it could be done so much better. I wouldn't pay over $0.99 for it, and that's a stretch. Don't waste your money.

Charmed I read the book Charmed this book is packed with drama, tradgedy, comedy and much more. This book is a book I feel everyone teenage female should read, if they haven¿t already. The Book is about a young teenage girl named Izzy who is going threw things home, her mother has a boyfriend and they don¿t too much get along with each other. Even though she is being put threw a lot she still is an outstanding student. The young girl also has a best friend, who isn¿t always most supportive. Once school starts she devlopes a crush on a young man named Billy who later takes her under his wing. She ends up moving in with Billy who is now her boyfriend she does not go home for some weeks. Billy bought her everything she even lost her virginity with him. Once she figures out that Billy is involved with more than she thought or expected. And that she would have to pay him back for everything he has done for her some how and some another even if it kill¿s her. This leads her to be looked away somewhere bleeding to death and for as how she got there or who or what put her there and hurt her, well I¿ll never tell I guess you just have to read it and find out yourself, I promise you wont be disappointed. It was very interesting to see how young men can be so manipulating and that everyone u shouldn¿t trust. One example of why I liked this book is because of the background it is based around our century. I myself can relate to this book in many ways, which is the main reason I understood and wanted to read it. Another example of why I recommend this book is because it shows how you think people are your friends but once something¿s happens they are know where to bee found. One more may be that I know you want to know why she is bleeding and what happened with her and Billy. So do yourself a favor and read this book.

Charmed was a great book but was too short. It never really gets into any detail and whenever i was getting into a certain part of the book, it would end and change the subject. I think that the ending was rushed. All in all, i could not put the book down and read it in an hour. When i got the end i wanted more to read!!!!
