Chaser (Princesses of Myth, #5) by Joanne Wadsworth

Goldie must embrace a new world, new rules, and a defiant protector she secretly wants. Continue the journey with the Princesses of Myth in this adventurous novel from New York Times Bestselling Author Joanne Wadsworth.

To love and protect…across worlds.

The two warring nations on planet Magio have now been united under a leading team of eight—four warriors from Dralion and four protectors from Peacio—a team who must now work together to bring their divided nations back together as one.

Goldie Wincrest is a princess of Dralion, cursed with a skill she’s never disclosed to another, an ability outlawed from their world centuries ago. She is a Chaser, one who must fight the deadly pull of her assassin ability, only she can no longer trust either herself or her fragmented thoughts any longer. There is only one pathway open to her, to choose her Destroyer and to give him the power he needs to see to her death should she go completely Dark.

Sorrell Sona is a fierce protector, a fighter of unparalleled strength, and when Goldie shares the knowledge of her outlawed ability with him, he is left in a terrible position. He must choose whether he can be her Destroyer should she become one of the Dark, or instead take a chance on seeking to be her savior.

Can he slay a princess of their world should she turn, or is he in too deep with her?

This series keeps surprising me. I would have thought that with peace between the worlds of Dralion and Peacio, there wouldn't be any adventure left for this delightful cast of character, but I was so very wrong. Goldie might not need to keep peace among the people, but she has to come to peace with herself. After weeks of foreboding dreams, she realizes she's a Chaser, an assassin - a skill that has been extinct among her kind for generations. Knowing the history of her people, she realizes it's only a matter of time before she turns to the dark side. So she must find a destroyer who can end her existence before she goes dark. That's where Sorrell comes in. One of the fiercest destroyer warriors around, he's a natural choice. But Goldie didn't count on their mated bond. Would he be able to kill her when she did slide into the darkness? And would either of them be able to keep the secret from her friends and family? The attention to detail in Wadsworth's stories always manages to keep me riveted. This series doesn't disappoint, and I was happy to see there is yet another installment coming soon. I'll keep reading to discover where in the worlds these lovable characters will end up.

Even though there is peace between the planets Magio and Dralion, Goldie Wincrest has a new problem to worry about. She has just discovered that she's a Chaser. She's determined that she won't become an assassin who is judge, jury and executioner. She chooses Sorrell Sona to be her Destroyer, but her plans go awry. What happens next is a compelling story filled with action and romance. I liked Goldie. She's a strong and caring woman who loves her friends and family. I was impressed when she took action on her situation and accepted the consequences. Sorrell agrees to help Goldie. I liked his quick wit and the bond he has with his Princess. Joanne Wadsworth does a wonderful job developing the mated bond between these two. It was powerful and romantic with a touch of sweetness. Their interaction made me smile as did the sassy banter. The two planets with there differences highlighted the characters. The plot was well written and had unexpected secrets and a deadly adversary. An added bonus was catching up with people I enjoyed from earlier books in the series. Chaser kept me reading. I wanted a happy ending.
