Country mouse Lucy Drake and urban fox Sue Stockland have no idea of each other's existence, but both are in love with the same man: Paul Meyer. When Paul is found dead from a heroin overdose in a Soho alley, it appears an accidental death, but police Inspector Guy Dugdalewho knows Paul's past as heir-apparent to gang boss Big Saul Kramersuspects murder. When Lucy and Sue find out about their lover's double life, both tell Dugdale that the other is Paul's killer, and both find themselves romantically drawn to the policeman. But there's another suspect: Paul's estranged wife, the club hostess Vita Virgo, and before it all can be disentangled there is further violence to be faced.
