Overview

Laurel London is one tough cookie. Orphaned and with one heckuva checkered past, she’s grown street smart and no one is going to tell her different, even if it means getting tangled up with the wrong side of the law. After terrorizing Walnut Grove, Kentucky all her adolescent life, she’s back and she’s ready to go on the up and up. Make something of herself. Prove the citizens of Walnut Grove wrong and make them admit she’s somebody.

But when mobster Trigger Finger Tony Cardozza jumps in the back of Laurel London’s car mistaking it for a taxi, she’s up to her ears in no good.

Recently fired and checkbook in the red, when Trigger offers to pay Laurel large wads of cash to drive him where he needs to go and keep her mouth shut, she’s all in. That is, until FBI agent Jax Jackson jumps in the back of Laurel London’s car threatening to take her to jail for her past crimes if she doesn’t cooperate with the FBI by going undercover to help bring down the mob.

Laurel finds herself battling the past and good vs evil and she’s not sure which is more deadly.

This is a great quick summer read. It contains zany characters, interesting and innovative plot, and humor throughout! One can't help but like fun loving, trouble-finding Laurel and all her antics. She inadvertently becime Walnut grove's only taxi service and to who, but the one and only mobster looking for trouble in this 1200 population town where evryone knows everyone, or do they? Jax or Derek, take your pick for who is the hottest guy in town.

Fun and exciting mystery I really love this book. Laurel London is one tough cookie and I have to say that she is my new favorite book character. I love her! Some of the things she got herself into made me laugh out loud and many of them kept me on the edge of my seat. It was such a fun mystery with several surprises. Can't get any better than this! I couldn't put this book down because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I really hope that there are lots more in this series because I can't wait to see what else Laurel gets herself into. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good fun cozy mystery.

Light hearted murder mystery involving Laurel London who is a strong woman. Her past plays strongly in her present and possibly…future. Delightfully full of mystery, twists, turns, some romance, ghosts, humor, quirkiness and oh yes…murder!

I loved this little novella. It had situational humor and kept me laughing out loud at the things that can happen in the life surrounding a shelter for those in need. From rabid raccoons to bombs in the shape of writing pens these stories will brighten your day. Loved it.

The story line kept you intrigued and want to read more. It was funny! People are jumping into her car thinking it was a cab. She had a job without having to find one! I thought the end was a bit far fetched, but then I guess the whole story line was! A lot of grammatical errors. Was there a proof reader, because there were a lot of words spelled wrong? At the end the author states to email her with misspellings, but who is going to go back through the book to find them.

Laurel London is an orphan who has a touch of larceny in her heart. She is one tough cookie who is trying to be good. Will she ever succeed? Maybe not, but she is trying so hard. She didn't see it coming. She was fired for no reason. Luckily she finds another job that pays well. The bad news is she's working for the mob. They think she is a taxi driver. How else is a girl to survive? Tonya Kappes writes wonderful, quirky characters that grab you and won't let go. Laurel is an original who always finds herself in trouble, but she is easy to love. Just ask her friends Derek and Gia. Trixie, her guardian, loves and protects Laurel. This story is a roller coaster ride filled with humor, mystery and a hint of romance. Who wouldn't fall for Jax Jackson, an FBI agent, who gets her to work undercover for him. The suspense keeps building. Why would the mob come to Walnut Grove, a small Kentucky town. You won't believe how this story ends. I loved Checkered Crime and Tonya Kappes. Her writing is wonderful and funny. This is a perfect summertime treat.
