Overview

Checkmate: This is Effortless is book 2 in the friends-to-lovers duet that'll have you swooning and laughing from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the game?

Courtney Bishop is as sugary sweet as her famous blueberry muffins.
Southern belle at heart, Cali girl by choice.
She barged into my life and easily became my best friend.
All was great as roommates and just friends, but then I fell for the girl who could chop firewood, deliver baby calves, and bail hay without breaking a sweat.
She's the perfect mixture of sugar and spice, and I love her.

Being more than friends and trying to build our future isn't as easy as it sounds.
Moving forward and creating memories is all I want for us, but when the past continues to come back and haunt me, I'm not so sure she'll stay for the ride.

Loving her is easy, but losing her will break me. Burning passion combined with an undeniable chemistry constantly pushes and pulls us together. In the end, I'll prove we're worth the fight, even when the game is far from over.

Checkmate, sweetheart.

*You must read Checkmate: This is Reckless first in the Drew & Courtney duet.

I could not wait to get back to Drew and Courtney after the conclusion of This is Reckless to see how their story ends. Checkmate: This is Effortless was an emotional and action filled story that picks up right where book 1 left off. It is the second book in the Checkmate duet and is not a stand alone and should be read after This is Reckless. Oh Deputy. I didn't think it was possible to love Drew more, but I was so wonderfully wrong. We've seen the cocky alpha cop and brother, but this time around he showed a more protective, vulnerable, and sweetness that left a goofy grin on my face for most of this book. Seriously, Drew and Courtney are friends to lovers gold. He's not perfect and may not always make the right decisions, but his heart is ALWAYS in the right place. I love that when he commits, he's all in. Courtney needs to be real. I would love a BFF like her and she's one of my most favorite heroines ever. She's smart, sassy, funny, and incredibly loyal. I love that she nurtures her relationship with Drew just as much as her friendships with Viola and Kayla. #squadgoals for sure. She has some of the best dialogue too and Kennedy Fox never disappoints with their sexy and hilarious banter! I really love her quirky and loving family too and hope that this isn't the last we hear about them, especially Jackson and Evan. Sorry this review is purposely vague, but I really don't want to ruin some of the amazing surprises and twists that the authors have thrown into Drew and Courtney's journey. Just rest assured that you will laugh, swoon, gasp, have a panic attack or two, and then feel all warm and fuzzy. Some things were a little over the top and the story stalled a bit in the middle for me, but I did enjoy the suspense and mystery in this book. Though this is the end of Drewtney's story, I know we will continue to get updates on them and Traviola. Speaking of Travis and Viola, their appearance in this book is awesome!! Travis and his super... yeah, you'll have to read the book ;) I can't wait to for Logan and Kayla's story next! *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

After my love for book one in this Drewtney duet, I had high expectations. Unfortunately I didn’t like this one as much as I wanted. I’m still giving it 4 out of 5 stars. This was one dramatic book! I’m not going to spoil anything, but just wow. I still love Drew and Courtney as a couple. They’re adorable. And I once again loved the snippets we saw of other characters from the first duet. That cliffhanger makes me want to read the last duet ASAP. I must know what happens next with the last couple. I think the reason I didn’t love this more is because of how dramatic it was, and how kind of out there it was…particularly with one character. If you read this, you’ll know who I’m talking about. But the epilogue was super adorable, so yay for that!

Oh my goodness! Kennedy Fox has done it again!! For every girl has wanted Courtney as a best friend and has crushed on Drew since the beginning of This is War, this is the perfect conclusion to their story. It is intense! It is a roller coaster of emotions and laughs. Mia F***ing Montgomery makes some epic appearances and ratchets the drama to epic proportions. How Courtney and Drew handle the situation with Mia and just how they treat each other in general is the ultimate relationship goals! I love how every book in this series flows perfectly into the next. Kennedy Fox got us hooked on the idea of Courtney and Drew in This is War and teased us with it in This is Love. Now that Courtney and Drew have their happily ever after, very well earned might I add, and we've been sufficiently teased with the idea of Logan and Kayla I cannot wait for This is Dangerous! Bring it on Kennedy Fox!

TEAM DREWTNEY FOREVER!! With the way the first book ended, there was no chance in hell I was not going to read the second book!! (Now that I’ve finished This is Effortless, I am even more obsessed with the Checkmate series!! I am so blissfully happy right now. I almost can’t handle it. This is Effortless is a great and exciting conclusion to Drew Fisher and Courtney Bishop’s swoony, sexy, love story. Filled with sweetness, steaminess, drama and a whole lot of crazy, (I mean it. We only get of glimpse of the level of crazy Mia is capable of in book 1.) I don’t think it’s possible for me to LOVE this amazing friends to lovers duet any more. Love love love!! Drew and Courtney are too perfect. I completely fell for this couple. They’re ranked up there on my favorites list. Their chemistry, their banter, their love, it all radiated off the pages. God! I love them so much. Drew is the sweetest. The way he cares for Courtney and his urge to protect her…*swoon…it’s heart melting. He such a good man. Plus he has access to handcuffs. *wink* And then there’s Courtney. Hello girl crush. She’s awesome. She is someone I’d like to hang out with in real life. A great gal pal and she can bake, the best! I think my favorite thing about Courtney was that even though she was scared for a majority of the book (rightfully so) she was never weak. It would have been easy to crumble with the Mia drama, her family in another state, her best friend not being as available as before but she didn’t let it all destroy her. Like I said she’s awesome. These two are magic together. I highly recommend this duet. I’m sure you’ll go completely gaga over them just like I did. You absolutely must read book 1, This is Reckless, before you read This is Effortless. I don’t think you need to read the first two books in the Checkmate series (Travis and Viola’s story: This is War and This is Love) but it doesn’t hurt. They’re great and you get more of the backstory.

Yowza! If you’ve already read book 1, you know how it ended and where this one picks up. For anyone who hasn’t read it yet, let’s just say the first book ends on a cliffhanger that is the equivalent to a punch in the mommy button with the force of a rocket ship behind it. It. Was. Insane! So, this book picks up exactly where the story left off, the insanity keeps getting crazier, and the suspense of how everything is going to play out is enough to keep your heart racing late into the night. All of that insanity aside, Drew and Courtney were still the cutest and were pulling at my heartstrings the entire time. I was rooting for them through every obstacle and challenge that life threw in their path. Team Drewtney for the win!!

A splendid end to a duet that is unforgettably good! I LOVED Drew and Courtney's story...and the ending...you WON'T want to miss! The second book in The Checkmate Duet series left me on the edge. Suspenseful, chalk full of heat, action-packed and always surprises around every turn, I could not put this book down. From the moment I started to the very end, my mouth was hanging open and I was, and still am, in awe. Kennedy Fox writes the kind of stories with sexy men, heroines you will WANT as BFF, and hot, sweaty, swoon-worthy sex that will leave weak in the knees. This story is everything you could imagine and more. I really liked how on edge this book was. I never knew from chapter to chapter how things were going to turn out and the ending was phenomenal! We also get just a hint, about what is next and I am telling you, it will leave you just as excited as I was! I honestly can't wait for you to read this book. Drew and Courtney's love story is dreamy and will make you believe in heroes, love and HOT sex! Checkmate: This Is Effortless gets a STUNNINGLY AWESOME FIVE SHOOTING STARS!

** Though this review is spoiler-free for This is Effortless, it may contain spoilers for This is Reckless, the prior book in this series. ** Well, after that ending in Checkmate: This is Reckless, I was dying to see what would happen. And guys… the incredible Kennedy Fox did it again!! This writing duo is so talented. I just can’t get enough of their books!! Effortless picks up right where Reckless ended. Remember that this book must be read after Reckless. (And it’s preferred that it’s also read after This is War and This is Love, though it’s not required. But they’re awesome, so I totally recommend it!) Drew and Courtney are still struggling through the Mia drama. (That chick is seriously CRAZY!!) Every time they turn the corner, there she is, wreaking havoc. But all this did was really make me love Drew and Courtney even more. I didn’t think I’d be able to love the Deputy more than I did in Reckless… but here I am, totally in love with him to a whole new degree. It may have taken Drew a while to come around… but now that his heart is with Courtney, it’s ALWAYS in the right place. I can totally see myself being BFF’s with Courtney. (Right, Becca?!) She’s so much like my type of friend, I feel as though she already is. She’s spunky and fun and doesn’t put up with any crap… but she’s also real and does get scared when things get scary. She doesn’t have the whole tough-guy persona, which I really appreciate. Sometimes fear is appropriate… and Courtney’s perspective on it was even-steven to mine. These two and their chemistry is still one of my faves! I’m always a fan of friends-to-lovers romances, but this one is really top-notch. I adore their banter, love and respect for one another. Drewtney for the win!! Another fantastic book by my new favorite writing duo. If you haven’t started the Checkmate series yet, I strongly suggest that you do. Start with Checkmate: This is War, and have the others lined up waiting because you’ll want to binge the entire series straight through. Looking forward to more awesomeness from KF very soon! (Thank you to Kennedy Fox for the review copy)
