Overview

Her mother named her Hurricane, but she prefers Rosie, the name her grandparents gave her when she came to live with them on their ranch. Now an adult, Rosie's found the ordinary life she craves, teaching science at Lone Spur High School, rescuing animals on her grandfather's ranch, and dating the safest guy in town. When millionaire-entrepreneur Destry Steadman moves next door with plans to build a resort, she takes it in stride. He may be handsome and athletic, but he can't even ride a horse. How much harm can he do?She soon finds, however, that Destry's plans affect her more than she realized. In fact, they may threaten the safety of the whole community. What's more, he has a knack for weaving himself into her life, and she enjoys his flirtatious banter more than she wants to admit. Now she has to decide whether her heart is with her steady boyfriend and her beloved ranch or with her swoon-worthy neighbor.Chemistry Lessons brings to life two opposites-a crazy Western cat lady and an Eastern businessman-and tells the joy-filled story of what it means to be in love."Jamison's writing is engaging and full of vivid, amusing lines."-Publisher's Weekly

This book is set in a small western town and ranch. Rosie runs her grandfather’s ranch, but when an eastern city slicker, Destry, buys the ranch next door, her life twists and turns in ways that don’t settle well with her heart…nor her long-time boyfriend, Tanner. Struggling to keep ownership of her grandfather’s ranch and keep up with all her heavy responsibilities, she is thrown off balance every time Destry crosses her path and incites crazy chemical reactions inside her. Though this story was slow paced, it was professional and sound and the characters were cute. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. The characters are strong and are doing their best to succeed in the midst of their trials. I was impressed by Rosie's tough work ethic and her determination to save her grandfather's ranch. Destry is a nice counterpoint to her often uptight demeanor with his more laid-back and charming personality. He is also a hard worker but takes things in stride. The story was interesting and engaging, but I had a hard time that even though there is attraction from the beginning, Rosie and Destry spend practically the whole book in other relationships, for reasons of convenience. There is fear on Rosie's part to put her trust in someone new, and Destry puts his heart on the line but rather quickly turns to another woman. Most of the angst is from the characters' own flaws, yet they handle their real world problems much better than their relationships. The ending wraps up the happily ever after nicely, but I would have liked to spend more time with Destry and Rosie while they were in a relationship together.
