This is a fantastic, engrossing story of a young healer, Anne MacGregor, and a dark, tormented hero, Niall Campbell, who are forced together in an unlikely alliance to bring peace to their two feuding clans. Anne, however, is unjustly thought a witch by some and doesn't find life in Niall's home overly welcoming. And, as if an unwanted fiance isn't enough of a problem, Niall soon finds his own life in jeopardy when he assumes leadership of his clan. Fanatics, traitors, and those who pursue their own ambitions over what is right and good add to the ever rising suspense. I couldn't put this book down, and can't wait for it's sequel. Bravo, Kathleen Morgan! You've a winner with this one!

this is a highlander with a who done it twist. i very much like the story and characters but beware of a lot of religious undertones to the story. if you like a clean highlander love story without sex then this is for you.

This book is definitely worth buying! From the start, Child of the Mist captivated me and kept me reading. The plot kept me guessing, the characters were interesting, and it was well-written. The whole book was spellbinding!
Anne is a MacGregor and Niall is a Campbell. Their families have fought for years and finally a truce is formed: Anne will go to live with Niall for one year and at the end of that year they will marry. Both Anne and Niall are stubborn and even though they don't want to, they gradually fall in love.
There are complications, however. Niall suspects that there is a traitor in his tribe, and he must protect his back everywhere he goes. Anne won't give up her practice of healing, and many accuse her of beings a witch.
Will Niall and Anne be able to overcome all of the obstacles or will their love fail?

Honestly I haven't read a book this quickly in years! I just wanted to keep reading once i was 10 or 15 pages in. I really appreciated the way the author recognized a relationship with God in the book, instead of the general idea of religion. Suggest to anyone who likes a mixture of intrigue, romance, and emotion!

This has to be my favorite book of all time. The way the main characters interact and respond to one another is captivating. The plot keeps you guessing the whole way and it is so easy to come to love these characters. The two following books in the series are just as good.

As far as historical fiction goes, I am a huge fan, and this book did not disappoint. The characters were very compelling, and the storyline moved quickly. Overall, I would recommend this book to readers who like historical romance without all the sex. Very tasteful and a delightful read!

I enjoyed the story, but felt it lacked depth. I would of liked to have seen more information on the traitor and plot. The rwriting was good but not enough meat.
Really enjoyed the lack of expliced sex

This book was an interesting experience for me. Generally I find myself disappointed with "Christian" fiction. This author did a wonderful job of pulling me in and via her characters posing great questions about how to best follow the Lord in circumstances that mean doing so could cost your life. Or worse that of another. Read it cover to cover without a break and will definitely be seeking out other books in the series.
Well worth a read.

Good romance. Nothing explicit just good old fashion historical romance. But the story is compelling and I just had to see what happened in the end. Can't wait to see what else she writes.

Having read all of Diana Gabaldon's books about Scotland, I read this bood and really enjoyed a similar kind of reading experience. Its not as full of detail as Gabaldon puts in her books, but that is a good thing. I usually will not read books with religious overtones, but this one was done with restraint on that score, except for the ending. If you are looking for a nice clean read with lots of romance, this is a good one.

Drawn out a little more than it needed to be. More religous references than I think the story warranted. I much prefer Diana Gabaldon's novels.

The setting is a different time and place but the story of love and passion is what everyone wants to experience

This book started out pretty strong but then slowed down and got really boring. I didn't even finish it. Considering it was free, I guess I can't complain.

A long standing feud between the MacGregors and the Campbells is put to rest by the hand fasting of chieftain MacGregors daughter Anne to the tanist of the Campbell clan Niall. Anne is a renouned healer in her clan but is forbidden from her practice when she joins the Campbells. Niall agrees to the hand fast but is still mourning the death of his wife and child in childbirth. During the one year hand fast they fall in love. This book has many twists and turns. Witchcraft and murder along with clan traitors prevail in the book. Kathleen Morgan has definitely written a four star novel and is a wonderful writer of the genre.JM
