Th e book is a recollection of World War II as experienced by the authors and their friends and relatives as children in diff erent regions of the Philippines. It consists of seventy-three episodes of pre-war and wartime experiences from 1941-when the Japanese invaded the
Philippines--to 1945 when the Americans liberated the country. Th e episodes range from remembrances of idyllic childhoods to nightmarish memories of the horrendous killings of parents by the enemy. Th ey narrate how children experienced the expected fear and horror of war, but witnessed the unexpected humanity shown by the conqueror toward the vanquished.
