About the Author
Eddy was born in Holguin, Cuba on June 14, 1935. His mother died when he was three years old. His father was a successful businessman and traveled constantly. He was raised by his loving aunts. Eddy graduated from Riverside Military Academy in 1955.
He returned to his beloved Cuba to find his country in the midst of a total political and social upheaval. January 1, 1959, disaster struck in Cuba with the rise of the Castro regime.
Eddy began a new life in Miami, Florida. He helped friends and relatives that were also going into exile. His future wife arrived on one of the freedom flights from Cuba. He had not seen Maria Elena Acosta (Mariela) for 15 years. They had a whirlwind romance and were married on September 7, 1962. Two days later they were in Hoboken, N.J. starting a new life.
On November 3, 1963, Eduardo, their first son was born. Eddy worked two jobs to maintain his family, struggling like most new arrivals to the United States. They unexpectedly welcomed Calixto to the world on February 2, 1965. Their third son Antonio was born February 23, 1970 under a much better financial situation. Their last child Leo, an unexpected surprised, was born on August 5, 1975.
