Chill Factor by Sandra Brown

Cleary, North Carolina, is a sleepy mountain town — the kind of place where criminal activity is usually limited to parking violations. Not so, lately. Four women have disappeared from Cleary over the past two years. And there's always a blue ribbon left near the spot where each of the women was last seen. There are no bodies, no other clues, and no suspicion as to who their abductor might be. And now, another woman has disappeared without a trace.

It is to this backdrop that Lilly Martin returns to close the sale of her mountain cabin, marking the end of her turbulent eight-year marriage to Dutch Burton, Cleary's chief of police. Dutch's reluctance to let her go isn't Lilly's only obstacle. As she's trying to outrun a snowstorm, her car skids on the icy road and strikes a man. She recognizes the injured man as Ben Tierney, whom she'd met the previous summer. They're forced to wait out the storm in the cabin, but as the hours of their confinement mount, Lilly begins to wonder if the greatest danger to her safety isn't the blizzard outside, but the mysterious man right beside her. Is Ben Tierney the feared abductor? Or is he who he claims to be...her rescuer from harm and from the tragedy that haunts her?

I love how intense and full of twists the storyline is ... I also love how there were so many characters that you suspect as being the murderer. I could have done without the steamy sex stuff, which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, but still glad I read it, regardless.

The town of Cleary may be a small town but it is full of secrets. Deep down dirty secrets. This book brings out many emotions in the reader: Confusion, Anger, Shock, Heartache, Anxiety, Love, Annoyance.. This book has it all. Dutch and Wes are high school best friends with their own secrets and agendas.. Lilly finds herself trapped in a cabin with a man she thinks is a killer. Then you have the arrogant FBI agents that know they out rank a little small town police chief and have no problem point that out. 5 women have gone missing... Nothing connects them to each other...and there is nothing similar in the women themselves. I really enjoyed this book and will defintely read more by this author.

This was my first Sandra Brown book, but won't be my last. I was lent this by a friend, and only started reading it because I was out of other books at that time. I was hooked from the first page, and read it in 2 days. It only took me that long because I had to put it down to work, sleep, etc. The story was interesting, and had me guessing right till the end. I can't wait to read her other books. It has opened up a new genre for me. I highly recommend this book if you like s thriller who dunnit read.

AMAZING!!!!! I just finished the book and I LOVED IT! The characters are so well written and the plot only deepens as it develops. The plot twists are mind-blowing! If I had been able to, I could have read this in one sitting. I would definitely recommend this to ANYONE who loves a great action/thriller/mystery. There's even some steamy scenes ;) definitely one of my favorite books and, being the first book I've read by Brown, I will definitely read more!

Nobody weaves a story quite like Sandra Brown. In this offering, we have a mix of people drawn into the story. There’s a serial murderer, obsessive ex-husband, unfaithful husband, put upon wife, son, sister, unethical FBI agent, and the good guys (the main characters). I read this book years ago and it’s well worth reading again.

This was my first Sandra Brown novel and it was absolutely riveting! I was hooked from the begining until the last page. I have now read several of her novels and this is by far the best.

Awful. I am the type of person that forces myself to finish a book. This book was the exception. I couldn¿t take it. I felt like it mocked my intelligence. It was annoyingly predictable. The characters got on my nerves. The plot and story line - so uninteresting. Sorry to be so brash but i feel like it was a huge waste of my time and money (darn Literary Guild for sending the junk to me)

I first read this book in 2006. I think it was made into a television movie. The novel is a very good, suspensful mystery. There has only been, Sandra Brown book I have not really cared for. Since she is a prolific writer, that is a huge compliment. There are some adult topics, but nothing which will make the reader's eyes pop out of their sockets. I recommend this book. Sges 16 and up. It is a chick lit mystery with lots of twists and turns. AD AD

Five women have turned up missing in small town Cleary, North Carolina. Lilly Martin is in Cleary, to close the cabin owned by her and her ex-husband. While heading off the mountain in a blizzard she spins out of control and hits a stranger, Ben Tierney. Because of the strength of the storm and his injuries they have not choice but to wait out the storm together in the cabin. Ben has been in Cleary off and on for a while, but no one knows why. He is a man of mystery who has connections with the missing girls. Will the FBI and local police be able to track down the kidnapper before it's too late for Lilly? I'm fairly new to Sandra Brown's books, but I am an avid reader averaging 4 novels a week. This book was mostly enjoyable but at times I felt like I had to drag my way through. The good part about the book was that it had many 'weird' characters who kept you guessing and guessing throughout the book. By the way, I LOVE that in novels. The other hard thing with this book for me was that I really get tired of reading books about people who get stranded together.

Boring. This book dragged. I usually enjoy Sandra Brown's recent books, but I didn't like the characters, plot, and especially the portrayal of the chief of police and teachers in Chill Factor. It did not set a good example for teens. I read to relieve my stress and escape. This book was depressing and no fun.

I gave a bad review to another book by this author BUT this book made up for it in spades! I could't turn the pages fast enough to find out who was the horrible person committing all those murders. If you like a good mystery mixed with some hot love making, this is the book for you!!!

Having enjoyed my previous reads from Sandra Brown, I decided to give this one a try when my friend's mom gave it to me. Am I glad that I was given this book and didn't have to pay for it. This was one of the most predictable books that I have ever read. I was about 350+ pages into it when I finally gave up. I cruised to the ending pages just to see if I was right about the killer and the Marilee's secret lover...I was. (Which I'm sure many other readers were). The book had a pretty decent story line and some twists and turns, but after awhile I was just so bored. This book didn't turn me off to Sandra Brown by any means, but this definitely was not her best. I would not suggest this to anyone.

Sandra Brown does it again! A tightly-paced romantic supsense story, CHILL FACTOR is the genre at its best. With suspects out the wazoo, you'll have a hard time figuring out who the bad guy really is--while you're watching the romance unfold between the hero and heroine.

I loved the fact that the very first chapter starts out with circumstantial evidence that will have you doubting Ben Tierney throughout the whole story. Is he the good guy, or just a really good con artist? The fact that the evidence continues to mount through each chapter leaves you feeling as mixed-up as the heroine of the story seems to be.

Sandra Brown has definitely penned a CHILLING winner--you don't want to miss this book!

I have read a few other of her books, but this is the best so far. You don't know for sure who the killer is. Be prepared for a surprise ending. She has a great talent for keeping you guessing. Enjoy.
