Overview

Wearing the nicest suit I own, I stand in the very back with a flask full of whiskey in my inner pocket. I put on a brave face as I watch her walk down the aisle.

Because it's too late.

I refuse to be the bastard who makes her cry on her wedding day, but I'm dying to tell her what I've always known. She's my best friend, but she doesn't realize she owns my f*cking heart and soul, too.

Each step down that aisle takes her farther away from me and brings her closer to him, forcing me to face the truth: I've fallen in love with someone who can't be mine. If she'd just turn around, maybe she'll realize I love her more than he ever could.

I won't ruin her perfect day, but my broken heart begs me to try and convince her.

Choose me.

Choose Me by R.C. Boldt is a standalone second-chance contemporary romance. Told in a unique way, beginning with just before the wedding of Magnolia to someone else and Hollis leaving before the nuptuals begin. Then we are taken through the years of their friendship from their first meeting and leading up to that moment at the beginning of the book. From best friends at eight years old to teenagers dealing with a difference in social class that has never been an issue for either of them but it most certainly has for both of their mothers. Being told throughout his whole friendship that he is not worthy of Magnolia, Hollis ends up believing this to his soul. Magnolia is too much of a yes-girl where her mother is concerned to dare to go to far beyond her mothers wishes so despite her attraction to Hollis, the boundary never gets pushed. A slow build, somewhat painful at times with the way Hollis was put down, especially by his own mother, but the ending is happy and hard won. Angsty and emotional and not overly sexual (most of the book is young kids to teenagers to new adults). Enjoy!

This is my first book with this author and, I have to say, I will read more. It was a nice refreshing change. An actual storyline with descriptive characters you really got to know. It wasn't hot guy meets hot girl (or vise versa) and after hot sex, it's insta-love. There was a gradual build up to mutual feelings of love. If you like Nicholas Sparks, I would venture to say you will like this book, same style and the setting in the deep south very reminiscent of his books as well. 5 stars.

5 Stars Review by Elizabeth Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Holy. Crow. Absolutely amazing!! I have been a huge fan of RC Boldt for some time now and her latest book, Choose Me, owned me from beginning to end. Buckle-up for an emotional ride and have tissues handy! Hollis and Magnolia meet when they are eight years old and immediately become the best of friends. With both of them coming from different sides of the tracks, so to speak, it was not easy to maintain the friendship they shared but they did. As the story progresses we get to see them navigate the early years through teenage years and finally college. The chemistry between Hollis and Magnolia is infinite. You can see the love they share for one another even if they are too pig-headed to admit it. RC Boldt wrote a kick-behind story about two best friends that will do anything to protect each other. Even if it means giving up the one person that makes you feel whole. There were a lot of emotions floating around in, Choose Me and I cried more than I care to say. These two are impossible not to love and I did not want to see it end.

A must read book. It’s a true love story, one you can’t put down. One that grabs onto you, holds onto your heart & emotions! It’s the kind of story where you know where it’s probably going, hoping it does, and still hold on that it really will, page after page. Love this book!

A coming of age, best friend to lovers romance that will make your heart pound and your gut twist right until the very end of the book. Two kindred spirits that meet as young children, but born from opposite worlds. Aside from their stubborn will to remain friends, they are kept apart by social status, horrible family members, and so many missed chances that you wonder if fate is also fighting against them. R.C. Boldt choose a brilliant way to tell a best friends trope. Give us the end… “Wearing the nicest suit I own, I stand in the very back with a flask full of whiskey in my inner pocket. I put on a brave face as I watch her walk down the aisle. Because it’s too late. I won’t ruin her perfect day, but my broken heart begs me to try and convince her. Choose me.”- Hollis Then she dives back into the past and we learn Magnolia and Hollis’ story from the very beginning. They meet as eight year old children. Far away from the chances of falling in love. A wonderful bond forms over their heartbreaking familiarities, I suppose like many childhood friendships. Over time, even if they do notice their feelings changing for the other, they both prefer to ignore it, opting to keep their friendship top priority. Neither have a relationship that is closer than what they have in each other. As the novel progresses through the years, you get to know Magnolia and Hollis through childhood years, teenage years, and into college. There is so much they experience together, but also so much they left unsaid. My heart was beating out of my chest the longer the story went on, the older they got. There were points I wanted to scream at the two of them. I also wanted to just close my book and walk away, but also speed read to the end to know that everything would turn out and be okay. I was so emotional!! It isn’t until almost the very end that we get back to the beginning. This is all part of the beauty of how Choose Me goes. It was gripping, all encompassing and brought out emotions I’d thought long buried in my childhood. (Magnolia’s mother held so many similarities to mine it was eerie.) I hope you enjoy the journey of Magnolia and Hollis as much as I did because I read it way past my bedtime and it was well worth it! Thanks R.C. I loved this book so hard!!

I loved Magnolia and Hollis! This was a friends to lovers book. It starts with them becoming friends as children and following their lives. Magnolia is from an affluent family. Her mother is very much a snob and very controlling. Hollis comes from a poor one with an abusive mother, but his dad is loving. There are plot twists you will not see coming, so gird your loins! This book will both break your heart and warm it! Oh, it will also leave you craving cherry Pop Rocks!!! Such a great read! 5 amazing stars

Hollis and Magnolia - they absolutely slayed me. The fact that they were from different sides of the track made no difference to these two, who became fast friends when Hollis and his family moved into the house that backed up to Magnolia's home. Despite her parents disparaging feelings towards Hollis's less well to do family, Magnolia remained firm in her friendship with Hollis, and the friendship grew as they did, the tree house they both helped Hollis's father build becoming their refuge from their over bearing mothers, their friendship a refuge to both of them, into their first year of college. But Hollis spent his entire life hearing from both of their moms that he wasn't good enough for Magnolia, and tragedy sent him running from college and his closest friend. It took a lot of time for Magnolia to stop grieving the lost of her best friend and first love - and she couldn't have been more thrilled when Hollis showed at her college graduation. But it was too late for him to redeem himself, because she had moved on. The story of Magnolia and Hollis was both tragic and beautiful. Their friendship and love for each other was always a constant throughout their lives, and if two souls were meant for each other, it was these two. Read this love story... it's worth every second.

What can I even say? Choose Me completely took me by surprise! I had the opportunity to read a very early draft of it and I never have read anything from RC Boldt in the past! So, to say I was blown away is an understatement. From the very first sentence, I was 100 percent in. There was no putting this read down nor taking a break. Hello No! My heart was already fully immersed in the storyline, just revived and it basically took over my life that night. Even two weeks after reading it, I’m still at a loss on the magnitude of emotions that flowed so beautifully. WOW, AMAZING!! Choose Me is truly one of the best reads of 2019 in my opinion!

I adored this book! It was my first from this author, but definitely not my last. I’m giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion. I wasn’t really sure how this was going to play out given the summary, but I enjoyed every page. Most of the book was set in the past, and we got to see the story/connection between Hollis and Magnolia unfold. This was definitely a friends to lovers story (heavy emphasis on friends). One thing that threw me off a little was that I expected this to be set in the present more than it was. Regardless, this was amazing. I loved both Hollis and Magnolia. From the first time they met, you could tell they’d be something special to each other. I loved their friendship; it honestly made me jealous, because I wished I had someone like that in my life growing up. A best friend who was there for you, who got you like no one else. Hollis is definitely going on my book boyfriend list. So sweet, and his southern hospitality/charm was amazing. *swoons* Early on we also met the families, and I didn’t like any of them except for Hollis’s dad. He was a great guy who loved Hollis so much. I won’t say anything else except there was a twist later in the book that I’d been expecting. The epilogue was super cute, and gave me all the feels. I can’t wait to read more from this author soon!

Truly an unforgettable story and so many heart emotions evolved while reading this book. Magnolia and Hollis are alike in many ways, but also different. There connection was immediate as kids and it only grew as they got older. The mothers who you would love to strangle a few times reading this book are a real piece of work and I think that may be putting it nicely. I loved Hollis’ dad though and he is a true father. Based upon their upbringings they could have been so different; however, they were complete opposites of the stereo types portrayed in both those worlds. It’s amazing what a line difference makes, and you will see what I’m referring to when ready this book. In checking the play list on this book, I was really surprised that “Marry Me” by Thomas Rhett was not listed as a song to listen to relating to this book. Oh, my heart! It pumps one minute and then drops the next. That ending has you on pins and needles and you don’t know if you should cry or jump for joy. I know which one I did, and that epilogue was the Cherry to those Pop Rocks! Every time I see pop rocks now, I’ll think of this book. Grab this book to read and find out if in Choose Me do they decide to go with “Like that” or “not like that”? You must read the book to get those quotes. There is not a book that I have read by this author that I have not loved and I highly recommend this book.

***5 ‘Pop Rocks’ Stars*** Oh my heart! No seriously My heart is all kinds of hungover right now. This book was emotionally draining while being absolutely fulfilling all at the same time Heck. My eyes did that leaking thing and we all know how I feel about that. (If you don’t, I’m NOT a fan because it will mess up my eye make up *smirk*) But this book. Hollis and Magnolia just killed me, in the best of ways, but still… Hollis and Magnolia. I adored these two from the start. They are both simply good people with huge hearts and golden souls. They are not perfect, not by a long shot, but they are real and it was easy to connect with them both and feel empathy for all that they dealt with in their lives and understand ~ while not always agreeing ~ the decisions they felt they needed to make. As for their journey to their HEA. It was a journey and one I had a hard time putting down. I loved watching how they became friends and just how deeply the connection between them went and how simple it was. They really were two peas in a pod. But the frustration over their choices were real. My heart understood, even though it hurt for them, why they made the choices they did in regards to each other and knew that despite their connection that they weren’t ready for each other as more than just friends...yet..but then there was my head. You know that scene in the movie Happy Gilmore where Happy is yelling at the golf ball to go into the hole, into its home? Yeah, that was what the voice in my head was doing for the mass majority of the book. Yelling at them to just go home aka be with each other. It was exhausting, but thankfully the ending was perfect and the mind and heart are very happy and at peace. This one may just go down as my fav book by the author. It had everything I could want in a best friends to lovers romance and more. It had the perfect balance of angst, humor, sweetness and smexyness and though there are a couple of issues that pop up that could be triggers for some, they were handled well and gave depth to the story. And as for the supporting cast of characters. They ran the gamut of me absolutely adoring some of them to wanting to gut a few with a spoon. There is one that I am hoping may get an HEA in the future because this one definitely deserves it and there was mention of one of my fav characters from another series in this one, which made my heart all kinds of happy. So, if you love besties to lovers romances and experiencing the ups and downs of the journey, then this is a definite must read for you! ~ Copy provided by the author & voluntarily reviewed ~

Boldt knows how to bring on the tears. Whether from laughter, sorrow or sentiment, remains to be seen. Choose Me is a reminder of how talented an author R.C. Boldt truly is. Hollis and Magnolia are a heartache away from losing something quite precious. Can their friendship survive the transitions heading their way? I LOVE the experience of reading this author because she never holds back from exposing her heart and it shines through in every novel.
