Choosing You (The Jade Series #1) by Allie Everhart

When Jade is given a scholarship to an elite private college in Connecticut, she sees it as a chance to finally escape her painful past and get a fresh start. She's determined to succeed and that means keeping her focus on school and not guys. But that plan falls apart her first day on campus when Garret, a wealthy prep school boy with swimmer abs and a perfect smile, offers to help her move in.

Jade tries to push him away but she can't deny her attraction to him and Garret won't let her. Things quickly heat up between them, but then come to a sudden halt when reality hits and Jade realizes that a relationship with Garret may never be possible. He comes from a world of wealth where there are rules, including rules about who he can date. And not following those rules has consequences.

As the two of them try to overcome the obstacles working to keep them apart, Jade is confronted with another challenge. On her 19th birthday, she receives a letter that her now deceased mother wrote years ago. In it are revelations that explain her traumatic childhood but also make her question the past she's been running from.

Jade has grown up thinking she was useless, her drunken mother had reminded her on a daily basis how she wished she had never had her.  Even with a few years in more supportive household away from her mother's nasty words when it came time for Jade to head off to a elite private college where she had won a scholarship she still couldn't get her mother's voice out of her head.  After a lifetime of not feeling wanted when she meet Garnett she mets his friendly interest in her well being with suspicion at first but he gradually wins her over.  Despite Garnett's rich background his life is wrapped up in a web of lies, where your family connections counts for everything rather than what you have done to earn your place in society.  His parents set the rules and until Jade came along he had abided by them but in the end he is forced to choose between living a lie to please his parents or be with Jade.  On her nineteenth birthday the letter her mother left for her before her death both explains and draws new questions. Choosing You is the first part of a series and ends on a slight cliffhanger but a few other books in the series are already out.  It isn't a explicit book the author does a great job of simply describing the sweet moments they share. It was well written  and full of intrigue and hope to continue to read the other books in the series when I get a chance. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm mad at you, I'm not mad at you.....repeat. There were some good parts with lots of chemistry between Garret and Jude, but mostly the same drama. I also didn't like how the author made Jade seem innocent throughout the whole book then tell use about a random one night stand. It really desn't make scence with how wierd she got the few times Garret kissed her.

Jade and Garret's love story is sweet and exciting with an air of mystery. It's refreshing to read a love story in which the man is trying so hard to get the girl. You see too many romantic stories focused on the female's intent to land the man. Love love love Jade and Garret...can't wait for the final book (though I'll be really sad to see the end)!

I loved, loved, loved this book. The characters are amazing. The chemistry between Jade and Garret is unusual but sweet. The twists and turns and suspence in this story had me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing til the end. I highly recommend this series to everyone. No matter what Garret doesn't give up on Jade. He is a very special person. I'm off to read book #2.

Sometimes there is a book that you just connect to immediately, and not in the way you expect. It wasn’t just the characters that drew me in, but also the way that the author so brilliantly, and realistically depicted University life. I love a good romance set at University storyline because my own University experience could better be described as the Years from Hell. So to have a character who genuinely struggles to fit in during her first few weeks at University was just so relatable to me. Because unfortunately it is not always ‘Meet room or flat mates, become the best of friends and have lots of fun’. In a lot of cases its ‘Are not accepted by flat-mates because you’d rather not party and drink, and are kept awake all night by parties in the hallways and music played at full volume at three in the morning.’ Jade was not what I expected from reading the blurb, and that made me love her even more. She was a real person who was trying to get through life to the best of her ability, not wanting any unnecessary attachments or distractions coming in the way of her goal. I admired her for her complete dedication to her school work, working tirelessly throughout high school and earning herself a scholarship, but also her desire to be at University not for the social experience (as so many students do today), but for an education that will better her chances in life. She was real, raw and had issues that made her appear blunt and rude, but was just doing so to protect her heart which had been damaged so much in the past. Garret honestly made me giggle, but in a good way, like a ‘I have a crush on you and don’t know what to say so just giggle’ kind of thing. His tireless pursuing of Jade, even when she was really not interested, was just really sweet, yet underneath his confident facade, he hides dark secrets that he wishes he had no part of. The way that the author had Garret forced between choosing to spend more time with the first girl that he has really connected to, and feels like understands him, and the obligations he has to his family gave the story an almost Romeo + Juliet kind of feel to it, which made the suspense and mystery of the story all that more exciting. The character and story development was paced brilliantly. I liked how the majority of this story was showing the growth of Garret and Jade’s feelings for each other. Even in the romantic moments, I really felt the strong friendship and bond that they had underneath the romance, which made me root for them even more. In particular I really hoped that Garret would be there for Jade to help her overcome her demons, as my heart ached for her when she believed that she had no chance at becoming a better person than her mother, and then when she discovers that her mother’s ill treatment of her was not as black or white as it seemed. The tension in the mystery storyline was just amazing. I am on tenterhooks, desperate to know who it was that was trying to keep the truth from coming out and I can’t wait to read the next book. This was a heart-warming, emotional, yet hopeful story and I can’t wait to continue the series and discover the answers that are plaguing Jade and Garret as they try to be in each others lives. *Review copy was provided by the author as part of the Choosing You Blog Tour*

My rating: 4 of 5 stars Choosing You by Allie Everhart is the first book in her Jade series. It is a romance that is low on explicit steam but high on the butterflies list. It has a cliffhanger ending, but fear not, the other books in the series are already out. Phew! Well-paced and well-written with just enough angst to make you hurt for them, the characters in this book will endear themselves to you very quickly. Jade has had a ridiculously tough life but catches a break hen she earns a scholarship to an elite private school. This is where she meets Garrett and the connection between them is there right away but the walls she has up are in the way of them exploring this connection. She knows Garrett is from a rich, entitled family and that they basically won't approve of her. So why bother? With a few surprises and many obstacles these two young people battle adversity and their own personal demons to find love.

I won't spoil anything for you, but I will tell you- with this book not all is as it seems! I figured this was just a regular contemporary romance read, I loved the plot, and was pretty happy with where things were headed and then about 85% through, BAM, the whole story takes a turn I totally didn't expect! I was genuinely surprised and excited.  If you've read any other reviews, or taken the time to check out the authors page you will notice that this is book 1 of 4, and yes, it is a cliffy! Big time. So you may want to have book 2 ready to go!  Anyway, on to the novel- Jade is starting her college life far from home, thanks to a scholarship she was awarded, and it's there she meets Garrett. The two are from different worlds, socially and financially, but are drawn to each other. Naturally, they have many issues you'd expect with that. But they also are up against so much more- there are dark secrets in their families that they are both learning about, and it will have the wheels in your head spinning!! I usually am able to guess where a books heading, not this one.  Jade is great. She's so sarcastic and sure of herself and I find it to be a great and hilarious combo. Her outlook on life is just so...jaded. I loved her, especially her huggy moments with Garrett. Garrett... *sigh* he's dreamy. I love him too! He's confident and sexy and funny and sweet and I want to marry him!!! But, he's perfect for Jade so I'll step back.  This whole story was just fantastic. It took it's time, letting you really feel like you were getting to know these characters as they learned about each other. There was no insta-love and getting married in a month crap here! I loved the authors pace. The plot seemed familiar until I got to the real good stuff and I now know it's pretty darn original.  I would highly recommend you give it a try. Some may be turned off by the fact that it's a long series, but to me it feels so exciting that I want to read more, there are mysteries to be solved! It's not just the continuation of characters lives and new random drama they face, it's a continuation of the ride we've just barely started with them, and I can't wait!

I read this book in one night, I enjoyed the characterization and the mystery of the story. As the story grows the intensity grows between the main characters and with the story. There are a lot of dynamics going on behind the scenes but they build and keep you  interested to the very end. I liked the protagonist, and it is a story that others can relate too. Often, when you have come from difficult circumstances people tend to be more guarded but they don't always want to be even though that may be what is coming out in their behavior or words. I liked Garrett and he has his demons to overcome as well. Should be interesting to see how this story all ties up, and I look for ward to reading the next book.
