Overview

Master pop-up artist Chuck Fischer's most glorious creation yet — CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD is the perfect holiday gift. Featuring France, Germany, Russia, Latin America, Scandinavia, Great Britain, Italy, and the United States, every spread is packed with delights: a luxurious central pop-up image, plus removable booklets, pullouts, mini pop-ups, and more. The text illuminates unique Christmas traditions, gift legacies, and portraits of mythic figures, such as England's Father Christmas and Italy's Le Befana. Like Christmas in New York, CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD is destined to become a treasured keepsake and a bestseller for years to come.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This movable book is something of an encyclopedia of Christmas celebrations around the world. The pop-ups are placed in the center of a 9" high by 20 ½" wide space when the double-page spreads are open. The pop-ups consist of three scenes of various ways Christmas is celebrated in different Christian countries, two movables that include images of globes, one collection of memorabilia from Victorian English Christmases, and one jump-up Faberge egg with no clear Christmas connection on the page of Russian Christmas Traditions. The images are in brilliant color and the movable actions are fascinating. Tiny booklets on both sides of the pages provide information about religious re-enactments, seasonal foods, in- and out-of-door festivities, decorations, and local holiday characters from the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Scandinavia, Latin America, and the USA. Information on the back cover states, "60 Photos 65 Color Illustrations 11 Booklets;" however it is uphill work accessing the information due to the small size of the booklets and the difficulty of holding them open while reading. But those who have the book will doubtless manage it and learn new things about Christmas around the world. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich

I gave out three copies of this book this year and the children loved it, as did their parents.

This is a very beautiful book that can be shared with children. It tells how people celebrate Christmas in other countries and is vividly illustrated. The children just loved it. A great book for parents to share.

Somehow I missed this one before Christmas and found this amazing deal on line. It's good for viewing. I find pop ups fascinating myself and hope to find time to learn to make some so it's nice to see what the most talented do. This one I hope to use for a Three Kings Day party. This is the poor children's Christmas in Mexico and this year, ah, it's suiting to celebrate. It will go along with the little kit I found for the Three Kings along with other fixings for the occasion. Browsing in the bookstore can be wonderful for finding just the thing to make occasions special.

This is a beautiful pop up book. Each page offers a different pop up scene from different parts of the world. It was nice to read how they celebrate Christmas and the traditions they have.

This pop-up book takes my breath away! It is not for children but rather is to be used as a family keepsake, to be passed down from generation to generation. This is a collector¿s gift, a work of art. Each two-page spread tells the history and traditions of Christmas from around the world. There are hidden surprises like pullouts and mini booklets that are filled with information.

The reader learns about Father Christmas, Boxing Day, and plum pudding in England, along with some authentic Victorian illustrations. The first nativity scene, presecio, or creche came from Italy, along with La Bafana, the Christmas Witch. From Germany came the Advent Calendar, the legend of Tannenbaum or Christmas tree, and Saint Nicholas. From France comes reveillon, a feast--late-night after midnight mass, Pere Noel, and pictures of the City of Lights, Paris, at Christmas. From Russia came the real Saint Nicholas and Baboushka. We learn that Scandinavia is where the Festival of Light continues. The decorations and the history of Santa are found in the pages about North America. Included in the back of the book is a box that pulls out and contains a Santa and sleigh that can pop together and be used as a stand-alone decoration!

A fantastic book to own or to give!

Christmas Around The World by renowned artist Chuck Fischer is one of the most amazing works of art I have ever seen. The colors are brilliant, and the workmanship is intricate and elaborate. Each page has a popup Christmas scene. There are flip-backs, pull-tabs and slide features. The text enlightens the reader to the history of Christmas in different cultures. The British display is complete with a crown, guard, and Big Ben. I was reminded of A Christmas Carol and Plum Pudding. As I turn each page, we travel to a different country and celebrate their traditions. I had never heard of the Christmas Witch and eagerly read her story as I celebrated Christmas in Italy. The magi rides his camel past the Christmas tree with the star on top, searching for the Holy Babe. Eagerly I pulled the tab as I journeyed through Germany, eyeing the carrousel and snow-covered land and reading of the Advent. The street in Paris with street lights, gay holiday windows, and a poodle delighted me. I enthusiastically read the story of the real St. Nicholas. At last, I journeyed to North America where the Santa I am most familiar with flies through the sky, wishing all a Merry Christmas. Christmas Around The World is a delightful book and will make an envious gift, but not for children. This is a collector¿s gift, a work of art. The book is well made other than a few of the pop-ups extending slightly too far. They will be easily bent and damaged. My copy will be a family heirloom, passed from generation to generation. Chuck's previous 'Christmas in New York' pop up book is a perennial. It is much-loved by an aunt who has everything she needs - and it's fun for her grandkids too. The book's a family experience and it's just right for a grab bag and a host/hostess gift. Your should have at least one on hand for the holiday.
