Christmas at Pebble Creek (Free Short Story) by Vannetta Chapman

This free short story e-romance is an exclusive bonus from The Pebble Creek Amish Series by Vannetta Chapman. Fans of the series will enjoy this chance to briefly revisit Pebble Creek, and new readers will be introduced to an Amish community that is more deeply explored in the three full novels, A Promise for Miriam, A Home for Lydia, and A Wedding for Julia. As a bonus, this free eBook also includes Amish homestyle recipes for chicken and dumplings, green beans, and fresh bread.

Heavy snow blankets the southwestern Wisconsin Amish community as nineteen-year-old Grace Miller closes the schoolhouse for Christmas break. She’s looking forward to having extra time to help the family prepare for the holiday, and she is hoping to get a few more drawings in of the beautiful, snowy Pebble Creek landscape. Her courtship with Adam Lapp is going on six months, and Grace can’t wait to give him his present: a blue-and-brown buggy blanket she crocheted for him. Yes, this Christmas is going to be especially joyful.

Yet, amid the cheer of snowshoe outings, church potlucks, and holiday festivities, Grace is given a bittersweet reminder of the Christmas story. Grief is present with celebration, and though the future is rarely certain, she is given a heartwarming glimpse that God knows our needs before we do and will provide.

My favorite character from Vannetta Chapman's Pebble Creek Amish series is sassy Grace Miller. She is all grown up with a wonderful story to tell. I love how Vannetta intertwines Englischer lives with the Amish showing that our basic needs are the same. A faith in God who blesses our lives richly and foresees our needs before we are aware of them and He provides according to that need. Vannetta writes fiction full of grace and this short story continues that tradition. A must-read anytime of the year! Enjoy!

A Touching Read! How thrilled I was to read about one of my favorite characters, Grace Miller, from the Pebble Creek Amish Series.   Little Grace is all grown up and working as a teaching assistant.  I was happy to read she still has her passion for drawing.   Imagine my surprise to find out that she is seriously dating Adam Lapp.  Is romance in the air? As the story continues an English stranger by the name of Audrey comes into Grace’s life quite by accident.  Little does Grace know that this stranger is about to change her life.  I was not surprised by the tears that filled my eyes at the end of this short story.  Vannetta Chapman has done it again.  She made me cry! Thanks Vannetta for this wonderful good short story!

Christmas at Pebble Creek is the last story in this series; we are blessed that this is another free short story available in digital format for Vannetta’s readers. Ms. Chapman mentions on her blog today that after writing the three books, she loved the Pebble Creek stories and they did so well that Harvest House agreed to let her write two FREE short stories (one to introduce the series and one to wrap it up). You can read about this and more about Vanetta Chapman on her website… HERE What a fine ending… Vannetta does an excellent job ending the series. This short story begins with Grace, daughter to Gabe and Miriam, who is all grown up and in a courtship with Adam Lapp. Christmas is coming… how will Grace and Adam celebrate? When they meet an Englisch lady who has been searching for Grace, what surprises will the future hold? Will Grace be tempted away from the Amish way of life? Will she leave Adam to pursue a career in the Englisch world? Many new exciting events take place in this story, but rest assured everyone ends up having a Happy Christmas. To quote Vannetta… “It’s the Christmas story, isn’t it? And the ending is always one of grace.” Read it – just read it. You’ll be blessed, just as I was blessed.

I like to read about the amish, I think in some ways they live a very nice, peaceful and happy life. They may not have all the things that we do, by I think they may just have a more peaceful and meaning life. I thought it was a very good short story, I saved it because I am sure I will want to read it again someday.

This short ebook is just that--a complete teaser. It leaves you wanting to know more about the characters in Pebble Creek. If you have read Vannetta's Pebble Creek series, it was nice to revisit the former characters and be reminded of where you first read about them. Just wish it was a complete stand alone book to continue--finished too quickly. Loved the Pebble Creek series! I would have to say that Grace Miller is my favorite as she was in the first book about Miriam. Still love that book and Grace has come so far!

Chapman has an amazing talent of writing short yet utterly precious ebooks that put her readers in the perfect mood for Christmas!! This one is filled with snow, adventure, and Grace's transition from one job to another in a sweet short story. It's hard to believe that Grace is all grown up and falling in love, but it's wonderful to see this brief update of her life and characters from the Pebble Creek Series :) I highly recommend reading the first 3 books before this one, it's easier to appreciate the story that way. This short story is sweet, magical, and perfectly done!
