Christmas at the Beach by Wendy Wax

A TEN BEACH ROAD NOVELLA

The USA Today bestselling Wendy Wax entranced audiences with Ten Beach Road and Ocean Beach. Now, the ladies of Bella Flora are back in an all-new holiday novella.

When Madeline Singer, Avery Lawford, and Nicole Grant first gained ownership of Ten Beach Road, they didn’t realize that remodeling the house would not only bind their fates together but give them a second chance at rebuilding their lives.

Now they’re gathering at the newly sold Bella Flora for one last Christmas.  Kyra, Madeline’s daughter, is hoping to get a brief respite from the paparazzi that constantly hounds her and the son she had with famous actor Daniel Deranian. But when a string of bad news threatens to disrupt her happy holidays, Bella Flora’s sanctuary may be threatened for all of the women who call it home…

We find that this family will gather back at the first house they 'did over'...from the 'reality TV show' for their 'last goodbye.' If you are in for a lots of family drama, "Christmas At The Beach" will take you there...with also a 'touch of suspense.' Be ready for seeing that they survived, thrived and their will be even more new challenges ahead as they start another reality show 'Do Over.' Just a little from the read... The wait to return to the lives of the ladies of the Ten Beach Road series always feels so long! I'm so thrilled that Wendy Wax has given us this novella to tide us over until the next full length, Mermaid Point, comes to us. Ms. Wax has taken us into the mind of Maddie's daugther Kyra for the first time and has done a fabulous job. So many changes happen in the 24 hours of the Christmas holiday for these wonderful women...you won't want to miss this step in all of their lives. Not to mention it was wonderful to revisit Bella Flora again, I fell in love with this house in Ten Beach Road. Christmas at the Beach may be a novella, but I think it's essential to those of us who love, love, love these characters!

I really enjoyed catching up with all the fun characters (Avery, Nichole, Madeline, and Kyra) from Ten Beach Road and Ocean Beach (which I loved)! I am so glad Wendy decided to gather the girls (and guys) together for a celebratory send off before the sale of the mansion. I always enjoy Florida settings since I reside in South Florida and have lived in other areas of Florida and travel frequently. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the e-book also includes a preview the next Ten Beach Road series (House on Mermaid Point-coming July, 2014). For those of you who have not read (While We Were Watching Downtown Abbey) – I have – there is also a special excerpt included as well. I am looking forward to House on Mermaid Point, as this will be in the Florida Keys (lived there for two years) and it sounds as though the setting will be in the Islamorada area (which is my favorite part of the keys). This will be the gal’s next Do Over house for the Lifetime TV series. (Each time a mention of landmark I know – keeps me smiling). Of course the paparazzi is not far behind. Not to give away; however, it sounds as though this one will be centered around the 61 yr single gentleman (star) who owns the house and is financial trouble and turning his home into a B&B to stay afloat----and possibly a little romance with Madeline (51 –newly divorced). How exciting. This should be fun and adventurous, turning this house into a B&B (since I am all about B&Bs and have handled marketing for boutique hotels for years). A great read – love the Atlanta writer! (be sure and read Ten Beach Road first).

One year ago a group of family, friends and acquaintances joined together to renovate an old historical beach house, Bella Flora.  Madeline Singer, Avery Lawford, and Nicole Grant agreed to a reality-style filming of their efforts, showing their marvelous talents and skills in full force as they took a broken down, almost ready to be demolished home into its full beauty and strengths as a model historical home worthy of its old but gorgeous Florida beach house status.  That process wasn’t pretty all the time and betrayals and secrets almost destroyed them each emotionally, as well as financially.  Secrets galore threatened as well and here we are a year later in actual and fictional time gradually learning there are still more shocking secrets to shatter the serene Christmas atmosphere.  But first there are celebrations for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to be held, with eating, drinking and chatting as the original characters and other relatives gather for their last holiday at Bella Flora. Kyra, Madeleine’s daughter, is first surrounded by the paparazzi at the airport and in a funny scene escapes their voracious quest for just one picture, and another, and another.  It’s not very long after her arrival at the beachfront mansion that a huge, absolutely huge gift arrives from the father of her son, Daniel Deranian, who is already married, with the most horrific virago of a wife one could ever imagine.   Add to that the awareness dawning on Kyra that all is not well between her parents and a later discovery on who has finally bought the redone beauty, Bella Flora, and you begin to get the picture that this is a family that seems to be defined by constant “drama” although not everyone takes it that way. Still, they find time each evening to have a celebratory drink and offering of what’s good in their worlds which is heartwarming at times and simply lovely at others.  It also turns out that they will begin a new renovation next year somewhere in the Florida Keys, The House on Mermaid Point – something to definitely look forward to reading and sharing! Christmas at the Beach is a lovely story about a typical yet unique family gathering together to share, bicker, love and heal – like most families wind up doing at holiday time!  Great Read!!!
