Christmas with Johnny Mathis

By the time Johnny Mathis released Christmas with Johnny Mathis in the early '70s, he had already recorded a few holiday records and was justly famous for his smooth style. Wisely, he saw no need to change it for this record, since his warm stylings are perfectly suited for such holiday songs as "Carol of the Bells," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Hallelujah Chorus," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!," "The Sounds of Christmas" and "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer." There's nothing new here, but there doesn't need to be -- Christmas with Johnny Mathis is a terrific complement to his previous Christmas albums, and a wonderful fireside companion for those cold holiday nights.

Wonderful album! Christmas is Johnny Mathis. That is how I got hooked on this great artist. I recently discovered his Mercury Christmas album. This CD is a reissue of the Columbia LP, which in turn was a reissue of the Mercury LP from the 60's. Why did Columbia have to drop two songs? The original had 12 songs. My Mercury album is in mono, but good shape. Maybe some day Columbia/SONY will reissue ALL of his Mercury albums?

I was born in 1959 and grew up listening to Johnny Mathis through my parents. My mother and father loved his music. I still listen to all of his easy listening but I especially love his Christmas music. I thought I wasn't going to find this album ( Chritmas with Johnny Mathis) and I am so happy I did.

Have been listening to this collection for 30 years, first on vinyl, then tape, now CD. Just wouldn't be Christmas without it. It's a family tradition.
