Ruben "Ruby" Gonzalez is a Nuyorican, or a person of Puerto Rican descent living in New York. Like many Nuyoricans growing up in Brooklyn, Ruby understands that life isn't always simpatico; between the fights, social pressures, and poverty, every day is a struggle. But does he complain? Nope-not unless he wants a kick to the culo.
Instead, Ruby gets by with a little help from his friends. Ruby, Guppy, Spicghetti, and Big John compose the Quarto Boys, a band of loyal brothers with a bond that transcends race and class. Fueled by hormones, these boys get themselves into a lot of mischief: cutting school, watching porn, committing misdemeanors-the list goes on. And through it all, they always have each other's backs.
Chronicles of a Nuyorican is a funny, raw, and politically incorrect story of survival and brotherhood. Nothing comes easy for Ruby and his compadres; still, things are a little better when you have friends to help bear life's burdens. When you're feeling down, sometimes all you need is a friendly insult and a punch to the shoulder.
