The book is incredibly disappointing. Dramatic and historic events are glossed over in a few paragraphs at most. There is virtually no original research here, and what is here is devoted mostly to quoting the subject in times when the author thought he was uttering something witty. This was a deeply diappointing book and one I am sorry I wasted time or money on.

Recently read this wonderful biography of Winston Churchill and was absolutely riveted by it. Unlike many books on Churchill, this book is short, not comprehensive, but perfectly captures his life story and achievements. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Churchill, WWII, England.

This book was simply a summary of Churchill's life. Although this book was entertaining, it was not a great work of history.

Well written and engrossing story about a central figure of the 20th Century. Well worth reading. I'll probably read it again.

This is more hagiography than biography, Not only does Johnson revere Churchill, he credits him with winning World War II all by himself.

If you don't know the story of Winston Churchill's life you really can't possibly understand the importance of Winston's contributions to the effort of winning World War II and the shaping of the modern political world. Paul Johnson's book does an excellent job of exploring all the important details in Churchill's life. Johnson steadily builds Winston's character through the many phases and events of his lifetime to show how Churchill became the larger than life leader he was. Johnson's writing style is easy to read and holds your interest throughout the book. I highly recommend this book and found it to be one of the most engaging biographies I have read. It leaves you satisfied and with a desire to dive even deeper into the person of Winston Churchill.

I am a high school sophomore and I had to read this book for a research project. I picked this book as my primary source and found it very useful in my research. When I first started reading this book, I found it intriguing, but not quite what I hoped for. However, I realized that I had set too high expectations for a person I knew nothing about. Once I realized this, I was able to read with an open mind. Personally, I am not very passionate about history, except for World War II. However, Paul Johnson creatively incorporates the history of England and World War II, into Winston Churchill's life story. The way Johnson tells Churchill's life, and the history surrounding it, is organized and understandable for the reader. The book serves as both a history reference and a biography. Winston Churchill 's speeches, quotes, humor, accolades, and attributes are highlighted and explained in this book. As well as Churchill's roles in Parliament and World War II. This book has given me a greater appreciation and understanding for Winston Churchill and history. I highly recommend this book for those interested in history, England, war, and politics. However, I do not recommend this book for younger audiences who do not have great attention spans, advanced vocabulary/ reading levels, appreciation for history, politics, and/ or extensive historical events.

I'm student at Saint Joseph, I chose Churchill for my research topic. I was study World War II, so I was very interesting to Churchill's life. This book help lots of, I like this book. This book is short biography that different with other biography long. The short biography is more interesting, because I was international student, the long book well make me feel stress. Johnson is a good author, he doesn't just narrate the history, he adds opinions on the book. It give this book a distinctive style. Johnson use the big frame to write Churchill. He didn't write everything about Churchill, he choose the reader interesting things todepth analysis. I know Churchill is a controversial figure in the United Kingdom, some people said he provoked a war, the true is when he was a young men, he wanted the war to make him famous, but when the war come, he was very take care about England.Churchill was a man who very take care his body, he has always maintained his health, and in his late years began to draw, and sell his picture. When he was old, he had depression, he was very hard to struggle with that. It is good book, I recommend who was want to know about Churchill, come on read this book.
