SHONNA SLAYTON is the author of the YA novels Cinderella's Dress, (Summer 2014) and Cinderella's Shoes (Fall 2015) published by Entangled Teen. She finds inspiration in reading vintage diaries written by teens, who despite using different slang, sound a lot like teenagers today. When not writing, Shonna enjoys amaretto lattes and spending time with her husband and children in Arizona.

Gr 8 Up—Slayton combines fantasy and historical fiction in this sequel to Cinderella's Dress (Entangled Teen, 2014). World War II has ended, but 18-year-old Kate Allen's life has yet to return to normal. Her father is still missing in the war zone, her boyfriend is getting ready to go to Europe to film a movie, and Kate has just taken up her duties as Keeper of Cinderella's dress (which has magical properties and is being pursued, along with her glittering slippers, by villains related to the evil stepsisters). Convinced that the magical shoes—which guided Prince Charming to Cinderella, after all—will lead her to her missing father, Kate jumps on the chance to go to Italy to search for them. Abroad, she learns that magical things are seldom what they seem and that the same goes for the people who keep them. Well plotted and moderately paced, the book (although squeaky-clean in its boyfriend/girlfriend interactions) is better suited for older teens. Patient readers will be able to figure out enough of the magical structure to get by without accessing the first installment, though familiarity with the first volume would enrich readers' experience with this sequel.
